When my radio years began, my second radio gig was in a pitiful little station but I stumbled across a book on the shelf there by Dr. Palmer of the WHO Des Moines , IA fame and of chiropractic training fame.
His books was a religious style manifesto on economy of words and 'conveniently located' would probably had been the victim of his red editing pencil.... unless a business was uniquely and explainable.
The nearest example I can think of would be a restaurant or watering-hole located in the shadow of the state capitol and the city hall.... where a commercial could quietly proclaim "the most convenient location known to mankind for you folks working in or near the Capitol building" |

Bruce, I already am! My 95 year young mom lives in independent living and I know probably half of the residents there. We chat all the time and many of them are a real hoot!

Ah, but how many folks know it stands for hyper text transport protocol?!

Mine, too! Early '90's. A Motorola 'bag phone' that had to be plugged into the cigarette lighter and I paid something like .25/minute for calls. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

How could you have worked there if you were only 12 at the time? _________________ "Bailey"

Of those who came to VO from radio, who remembers when commercial copy was written pretty well and was 'respectfully' timed so that you could pre-read it once to get a sense for it, pick a piece of music and put it on the turntable, put your headphones on and simultaneously record and mix the spot in one or two takes?
Now, many Production Directors are stressed, not only because they're producing for a cluster of stations, but also because so much of their time is taken up by having to cut all the breaths out of and/or time-compress spots due to their being over-written.
Humans are a funny bunch: wIth all our advances, we still figuratively put band-aids (®Johnson & Johnson) on things rather than make them correctly from the get-go. All of our technological time-saving devices and software are of little value if we continually refuse to adopt time-saving procedures.
Work smarter, not harder. _________________ Mike
