My WinFTP used to be great, but now I'm constantly getting errors I don't quite understand. Data Execution Prevention (and yes, I even turned it off for the program in Windows, but get it anyway), Dr Watson Debugger (what the heck is that anyway?) and generally non-or-barely functional results.

Anyone have a good recommendation for a reasonably inexpensive program that doesn't have monthly charges? The free stuff may be a little too techy for me..I want a user-friendly interface I also use YouSendIt (now, bizarrely called Hightail) but really would like to be able to upload files right to my own website. Any help would be welcome. Thanks

I use Transmit and it is flawless. However... I think it is Mac only. I could be wrong though.

Bill,

If you use Firefox, the FireFTP add-in is a wonderful free gem that just works. I use it for everything except one client whose site requires some extra security capabilities in FileZilla.

I use a stand-alone program called Ace FTP 3. Mine is the freeware version and it is pretty simple and reliable.

For sending large files, I have used the free version of Hightail, nee YouSendIt (I agree, they changed the name from something descriptive to something cryptic) but have recently been using WeTransfer. Unlike Hightail, the free version of WeTransfer lets you send multiple files (up to a total of 2 Gb) in a single shot.

Hi Bill. I use We Transfer. No sign up. 2BG files. Multiple loose files. It has been perfect.

Good luck.

I always counted on CuteFTP...but it's not free.

But frankly, since I installed dropbox I haven't used it again.

FileZilla user, for those clients who insist on using 25 year old technology. Everyone else gets either DropBox or wetransfer.com

Another WeTransfer user here. Not only is it easy to use and (so far) faultless... it's cool and actually looks like it comes from this century. Every client I have introduced to it has ended up using it on a regular basis.

If forced to use FTP, I like Cyberduck because ducks are cute.

I'm tempted to pay the small monthly fee to get the WeTransfer deluxe edition. I've got a couple of clients that send me files with it and they have a lovely, designed page that announces your files have arrived and you can click on the page to go to the client's website. You basically send an attractive ad for yourself with each file delivery.
