Just having a little Christmas fun, and wanted to see what everyone's hoping to get in there studio stocking this year! A new mic/ preamp/ interface/ phone patch?
If you could get anything, price not an issue, what would it be?
Merry Christmas, And happy holidays!

Lists like this should always be about what you want... not what you need! Those luxuries that you could quite happily live without, but wouldn't it be nice if... so, with that in mind:
A Sennheiser MKH 416 would be really nice. No need for any gift-wrap. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

I agree with Bish. I don't NEED an MKH416, but have always wanted to try one out.
What I really wish for is continued business growth (2013 was a banner year), and more clients like the ones I already have, who are - by and large - a delight to work with. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

Way to get in the spirit, Scott and Bish!
All I really want is a decent mic (CAD e100s), interface (roland duocapture ex) and a quieter place to record.
But, since we're havin' fun..... A U87, 416, and Blue Mouse would be nice. and maybe throw in an Avalon preamp. Oh and a StudioBricks booth, but THAT's it _________________ "There's Magic all around us; you just have to see it. One reason I don't NEED an MKH 416 is because I DO have a CAD e100s and recommend it highly. B&H Photo in NY sells them new for around $350. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

I have the E100s, so I'm good there.
What I really want is the Avalon V5. I think I have a good sound technically, but goshdarnit, I want the V5. 2013 was a banner year here too, so if I do even better next year, I'll treat myself to the V5.

Have to agree with you all. An MKH416 would be ideal. The preamp I can get myself: from what I've read the Focusrite 2i2 goes well with the 416 and it's reasonably priced. |

Hate to be just another lemming, but a 416 would be on my wish list, too. If I have any money left after I finish my booth, I may just have to grant my own wish.
And, of course, I wish for avalanches for all the voiceoverists of the VO-BB! _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Not to be the Grinch that stole your 416, but...it's not the Holy Grail. I've used one for years. It can sound great when the stars align. But move that sucker 5 degrees or move a throw pillow in your space and they can get boxy and funky.
Some think a shotgun is good for indoor recording in less than ideal spaces, but its just the opposite. It's really designed for outdoors ( Lance knows).
I'd recommend the 416 if you have a great room, and you do a lot of high energy style VO. You may be disappointed on how spitty and harsh a 416 sounds on some voices.
That said, if Santa brings you one, accept it with grace and appreciation. _________________ www.asapaudio.com |

Grinch!
I have one and I want ANOTHER. And then another and another and another... until I have so many I can't count them all. And then I want a Ferrari 458 Italia to record in. The acoustics with all those 416's at about 190 mph would be awesome!!! _________________ Never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the Paramedics

I'd be pretty stoked if Santa surprised me with a TLM-103. I love my shotguns. They work perfectly for my voice and virtually every type of work. It would be cool to have the option of another "flavor" though. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

Wait...do over...my wish list is that I want ISDN to go away (and yes, for all y'all that have it, I wish that you get your investment back). _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

I'm a big Source Connect fan, but during a recent session it completely dropped out and we couldn't get it to reconnect.....thank God for Skype to the rescue. |

ISDN will be around longer than those who forecast its demise would like to think. Better come up with something under "B" for your list Lance. Of course it very well could be long gone before I get my Ferrari. _________________ Never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the Paramedics
