There's a skunk out there.
Also of note, there's a production company with initials very much like VON that would like to offer you a less than stellar deal to record audiobooks for them. They are going through ACX, like many of us can do on our own, and they are pursuing Royalty Share only books. If you audition through them and win the audition they will pay you 35% of the royalty share instead of 50% (the payments that are shared between author and narrator) for the life of the book. In exchange for them taking this off the top they will provide the QC and the mastering (not the editing).
This is a questionable enough, but then you add in this: all of the books they're offering include a $100 per finished hour stipend from ACX. Does any of that go to the narrator? Nope.
If you have the ability to provide or arrange for the QC and mastering on your own, this is a deal that requires a lot of tomato juice.

Bruce, I got that same lead and very quickly deep-sixed it.
Made me very angry, too. _________________ Scott R. Pollak

How can one tell if they're involved in any of the books on ACX? Or is it that they're going through the ACX listings and picking out books to present to people who audition through their own channel instead of doing it for ACX?
Either way, seems like somebody thinks they've found another way to screw VO people. _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

They clearly stated they using (trolling through) the ACX listings as their source. They are officially producers, just like many of us.

I went round and round with the guy explaining why the royalty share numbers he gave are dead wrong, and he said "They're just an example to keep the royalty share system simple".
Jeepers, thanks for dumbin' it down for lil ol' me. _________________ Jeff
