Anybody used one of these or can tell me how to use them?
Picked up one of these cuz it seemed really solid, the shaft extends, and it was inexpensive for the apparent quality,

<sorry can't figure out the IMG posting function on the BB either>
Came with no instructions, and no model # written on it.
[Edit: apparently it is the the DST210)
The main shaft ends in a ball into the the base, so it can move in different directions, which you are obviously supposed to tighten a ring around to lock in place. But if it gets bumped or moved in something other than the direction it is leaning, the shaft falls, If you put it at an angle back over the stand, it tips over.
I don't dare put anything other than an SM-58 on it (cheap, durable, not-so-heavy), because it tips so easily.

Try this...
www.cinefocus.co.jp/catalog/detail.php?code=4535400
... but the language looks Japanese.
It's not img... it's url. _________________ "Bailey"

Right. Read the FAQ, but can't figure how to properly post image. Tried writing with and now without https. They obviously sell/sold them at that store in Japan.
I just grabbed the first photo I could locate. Here's another, written in English:
http://www.bluearan.com/index.php?id=PRODST210
Proel is an Italian company. But couldn't find this model on their website, so they are probably discontinued. Wrote, but haven't received a reply from them yet, either.
Just wondering if anyone has used same or similar and knows how to use them properly. |

Here:
As for tipping easily... depending on your work surface, two options:
1. velcro on the bottom - if decently strong, you could safely keep the base from tipping even with a fairly hefty mic attached to the arm
2. small c-clamp - not the clippy kind, but actual screw tightening kind - you can get them with rubber fingers or simply put some soft piece of stuff on to protect your desk (this would require the thing being close to the edge of the desk, though)
2a. if you're using an old solid-core door as a desk like me, just nail it down
EDIT: A bit more serious than 2a but similar - if you are okay with drilling two smallish holes in your desk, you really could use a reasonably-sized U-bolt, around the front lip of the base. From the image, it looks like there's an oval hole in the base, and a U-bolt would straddle the lip right nice, go through the desk, and the plate would let you tighten uniformly and very securely against the underside of your desk. _________________ Finally, Ford stops starting to say things and starts. |

Thank you Chris. That's the one.
[I'll have to learn how you did that].
Actually, it is the arm that falls in some direction or another quite often. The rather heavy stand itself is stable unless the arm is in the position shown- straight over the stand, Then, add any mic and the whole thing tips forward, Any other position, the arm eventually falls.
The most stable that I have been able to get it is in that 'forward' position, propping the front feet (there are four small rubber feet on the bottom) up on a paperback book, which pushes the center of gravity back. Still not entirely stable, but better than any other position I have found. I suppose nailing it somehow or U-bolting it down to some sort of incline would be a possibility- there is a small oval hole in the base- less than 2" wide and 1" tall, provided the U-blots are the right size and shape, etc.
Shame though, because locked in a single position defeats the point of having the swivel arm, |

I mentioned a DIY hack project someone did with an Ikea lamp, about a year ago.

I made my desk stand as follows:
On-Stage MS7201B mic stand - it's only about $21 with free shipping from Sweetwater. Find something interesting to do with the shaft (I'm not soliciting suggestions). The base is 10" round and weights 7lbs... take the short shaft and boom from Don's suggestion and you'll have a really stable desk stand (and a long metal pole to hit people with). _________________ Bish a.k.a.
