Hello all! (If you haven't gathered by now) My name is Shane, and I am 'new' to the world of voice work. (Kinda)

I have been in and out of radio from the age of 19 (no more thank you) and I have been moonlighting as a PbP/Commentator/Ring Announcer/Interviewer for the local MMA scene in my area for close to the past decade.

I guess its only recently, that my 'hobby roulette' routine has landed on this aspect of VO now. And I have 'accepted' (if you will) that my voice (and personality behind it) is who I am. Its a passion and a gift that I love to share. Laugh

I picked up a Yeti pro and a Scarlet 2i2 to help get my feet wet and see if this will lead me to anything new and exciting, in the realm of being able to use my pipes.

Just as it is in the world of MMA - I don't have the aspiration to be the next Bruce or Michael Buffer, nor do I necessarily aspire to be the next Don Lafontaine. I do this because of a passion I have for it. I cant tell you how many 'pro-bono's' I have done - but each is/was a learning experience (and they usually only get the first one on me)

All in all, Im happy to be here and learn/hang with those who do this as their main means of putting food on the table. Who knows? Maybe one day I will be in that position. But right now, its still a 'hobby'. And my motto is 'As long as this doesn't feel like or become a job then I will do it til' I cant any more'

Thanks for having me!
Shane

LOL Awesome - thanks for the welcome.

Ill start brushing up on my knowledge of chocolate llama poop and watercress cake.

They both sound rather unappealing, but if it helps the voice...

LOL

In all honesty, the banana shark has no significance whatsoever. (It just made me laugh when I stumbled across it) I really do wish there was a funny story behind it, but its more like the funny story in front of it. (Indicative of my personality(ish))

It was a toss up between that av, and a caricature I had 'specially' done for my boss. (The av/picture itself is SFW - the video demonstrating it.. Well, not so much)

I personally find it a bit too disturbing; too reminiscent of the baby alien in "Alien".

But.... welcome anyway! Wink

But what about his cousin that starred in Spaceballs? Was he a bit too disturbing too? Or do you discriminate against only certain baby alieii. (Thats plural for alien by the way)

Thank you again for all of the warm welcome(s) and replies!

Quick question (still as a hobbyist at this point) - Should I make my initial (big) investment in a coaching/demo package?

I have some dry reads done that show (some) of my diversity, but I dare not attempt to use them as an 'official demo' as they are not produced in any sort of fashion, and the 'coaching' I received for these reads was done by a buddy in the business. (Not by a pro or in a pro studio)

Like I said, I am still approaching this as a hobby but I dont want to set myself up for failure (or more struggle than necessary) in the future if I ever decide to take it more seriously.

I can always post links to my work so that you can also have a better idea as to what I speak of Laugh

Thanks All!
Shane
