I have a Google number which feeds calls to my cell plus my Skype number in my main computer. Cell reception is lousy in my "cave" so I leave Skype on while I work so I can grab calls that way when possible. Two or three times a day Skype seems to issue this 3 or 4 "boop" sounder. I click on the Skype screen and don't see a thing about it. It's not a call. It appears to be nothing. Does anyone know what this is? It hasn't interrupted a session yet, but....

Thanks!

B

I believe that is a notification that a contact has come online. Is it an ascending "boop?"

This used to happen to me throughout the day, too. If you go to Tools->Options then hit Sounds in the options dialog, you'll get a big list of events that make skype boop (or beep, or boop oop a doop... boop!) at you. *Un*check these:

- contact online
- my contact goes offline

...then click the Save button.

You can also turn off any of the other ones that annoy.

Yes Lee, it's an ascending set of boops.

I found it, but I'm on a Mac and the trail is different:

Skype Preferences> Notifications > Details

Thanks!

If you want notifications... but the silent type... I've found that Growl works pretty well. It just gives you a pop-up (temporary or manually dismissed) when something happens... it works perfectly with Skype. It used to be free, but it's now $3.99 in the aHobo Tounge store.
