|
|
Hi all - I have a friend who has been doing part-time acting for years, who lives in Colchester, works in London, and would like to get with a reputable VO coach in the area (probably would prefer closer to Colchester than London, though). If anyone has a recommendation, I'd be happy to hear it and pass it one. Thanks |

I can think of only one on that side of the pond. I hear he works for pies and collie treats. _________________ Don Brookshire

One could learn all I know about Voice Over work by counting to 1 without needing all the numbers. |

All the numbers are for Jazz and Bess. Preferably as multiples of treats. |

Hi Kim,
I asked the same question in the British Voiceovers group on FB a while ago and it appears there are very few voice over coaches in London or anywhere in the UK. Most people who responded recommended Nancy Wolfson as a voice over coach.
You can find dialect and accent coaches, voice coaches for theatrical/film/TV actors and speech therapists in and around London but we are remarkably short on voice over coaches. I had one London-based coach recommended to me, I'm in the process of booking an initial session with her, will get back to you with feedback for your friend once I've worked with her.
What London does have is loads of voice over workshops and courses. I would suggest your friend looks into those as a starting point, the course leaders may well know coaches or could be coaches themselves. There's courses in everything from starting out in voice over to setting up home studios to more specialist courses in ADR and video game voice overs.
Good luck! _________________ Kirsty Gillmore: Voice Actor, Sound Designer & Sound Engineer

Ah, thank you. I'll pass that on to him. I'll be interested to hear what you think of your coach after you have a few sessions. Feel free to PM me. |

Your friend could try courses at City Lit in the first instance, to get a intro to VOver. Then he can move on from there. _________________ Intuit and do it!

City Lit has a very good Character Voice course, run by my old chum Dian Perry. Well recommended. _________________ Charles Nove

+1 on Dian Perry. I worked with her here in Portland before she went to London and really took off. Very talented person and good people too. |

For accents, characters and impressions, you can do no better than Yvonne Morley at The Showreel. She's taught actors from the RSC and is amazing. I use her techniques all the time. _________________ https://www.darrenaltman.com/
