Wow! What a great room. Love the decor and the lighting. But, I just gotta ask.....how do you handle soundproofing at that window? That is a window w/ blinds I see, isn't it? |

Those wooden blinds function as a diffuser, much like the bookcase....
Love the placement of absorption in the bookcases, behind cabinet surfaces, and in the choice of curtains..... along with wall surfaces, and the ceiling cloud.....
Great way to make a functional studio environment look like a much more inviting atmosphere.
Kudos. _________________ Don Brookshire

heyguido, I think Alan's question was about sound transmission rather than absorption or diffusion. Unless what's behind those nice blinds is a couple layers of sheetrock and GG, then there's a big pane o' glass, that's almost as transparent to sound as it is to light. |

Well, that's a moving response! Thank you so much for the warm words everyone. Me and Emma are basking in the lurve! Chuckled over the Barry White references.
To clear up the blinds question:
In the control room we find no soundproofing is necessary as we live on a very quiet road. The blinds there offer a little bit of diffusion, like the shelving on the opposite wall. And yes, those are acoustic panels behind the shelves.
In the booth it's a different story. The soundproofing is pretty good. Yesterday the house opposite had a truck loaded tree mulcher making a devil of noise but we carried on working without a hitch. I was quite surprised.
The window arrangement in the booth goes like this:
A well specified double glazed window on the outside and a heavy, sliding, tertiary single glazed unit on the inside. There's a gap of maybe 6 inches. The blinds are cosmetic and sit in the air space between the windows. Very effective!
This has been a big project and what you see on the pics is only a part of it. The room which now houses the control room/office used to be our lounge. So the first stage of the job was to convert our garage into a new lounge/TV room. We've done the whole thing in less than 3 months. But the planning, well, that's a different story!
Thanks again for the kind comments - it honestly makes it all worthwhile.

I love the radio dial print, nice work!
Having "been there, done that." with a studio build, I know how satisfying it can be to call it DONE.

Uber-high-end gear in there, man. That Cranesong monitor controller is serious stuff. What audiophile monitors are you using in there?
Looks amazing. _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.

Wow - thanks again for the warm comments - me and Emma are quite humbled and quietly purring. I guess it helps that there are two of us in the business so, in a sense, we can pool resources and get the studio we always wanted.

George - the monitors are Spiral Groove Sonics. I've had them for 3 years now and they the best thing in the studio. I've always like them a lot but since getting the room acoustics properly designed, they are really shining. They are so linear and distortion free that the other speakers in the house all seem broken! Different mics and pre-amps come and go, but these speakers are desert island gear. They are not made now but there is an updated version made from bamboo called the Spiral Groove Studio Ones which are said to have even more bass extension. _________________ Colin Day - UK Voiceover
