Thinking about getting a tablet for the road and wanted to get a few things straight..

Android says it will support my Presonus Audiobox with an OTG cable..will it supply phantom power? or do I need a powered usb hub?

I started down this rabbit-trail maybe 4 months ago so now I come into your presence claiming a modest amount of expertise. (tee hee)

I am using exactly the set-up you are asking about. AudioBox VSL 22. Careful which tablet you get. Make sure it supports the OTG concept. (Some do, some don't. I misread the list and started with a 7"" Samsung. No go. The 8" does just fine. Also, my Samsung S4 phone also functions well.) Unless you have a comfort level with your vendor, get a GOOD OTG connector. I got a couple at stores that were trash. Got the SAMSUNG version which cost a bit more but it works reliably when asked.

Go to the USBAUDIORECORDERPRO website. You will find a list of Andorid devices that work.... and those that don't work. (I didn't read the list carefully so I blundered into the Samsung 7". My retailer kissed the boo-boo and made everything go well.)

The tablet WILL provide power to the AudioBox and it in turn will provide phantom power. (I am currently supporting two mics at the same time with power.) If you do long recording sessions, if you do long form narration like audio books, you are going to want to connect external power. Get a POWERED HUB.... right? Buy carefully. Your typical HUB will not work. It becomes a brick wall between Android device and the AudioBox. Order a HUB that is... (I hope I have the terminology right...) a TTL powered hub. TTL is shorthand for "transaction translator" something. I tried a couple of retailers and I got this vacant stare and the words: "Uh Whut?" I ordered on line and took my chances they knew what they were doing. They did.

As you can see, I made ALL the classic mistakes one can make on this venture.

I'm loving it!!!

My goal was to achieve a QUIET RECORDING SPACE. Mission Accomplished!

nexus 7 or 10 both support OTG, which - as mentioned, is the REALLY important part. i have both & i like the real estate on the 10 better than the 7. i use the 7 with OTG cable as a DSLR monitor.
