So I've finally finished my demo and 99% of the packaging, but I'm trying to make one last decision on the CD label itself. I'm far too close to it to be objective.
Based on its placement on the CD label, my choices are between:
2005
Demos
-or-
Demos
2005/2006
Considering that the last demo I sent out was in 2001, I'm thinking of shelf life for this one. In other words, in 2006 (or 2007) this may still be "current" if I go with 2005/2006, whereas if it's just 2005, will it seem terribly dated in 2006 (or 2007)?
Maybe I'm being far too anal about this, but that's why I'm asking you folks here. And before you say it, right now there is no option #3 (that I should be creating a new demo next year).
Thanks for your input. |

Dude, why are you even putting a date on your demo label?
I change the label color, but I don't date 'em. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Don... I agree with Deirdre. Why do you need a date? All the client wants to hear is a voice. I can see updating a demo from time to time, but to make a big deal about the date would be like saying "disregard all my other demos... I don't sound like that anymore". For your own record, I'd say to keep track of dates. But unless someone inquires... don't say a thing. It's irrelevent. _________________ "Bailey"

Interesting. I hadn't considered that option.
I guess i was trying to "idiot-proof" it. I know from my studio days that sometimes interns are given the task of "straightening out" the demos. And if there are two of mine there and one is to be tossed, I'd prefer it were the older one. Too many hands can lead to one too many mistakes. I guess I also figured it might call attention to the fact that something new has arrived and that it might be worth a fresh listen.
But you've given me something to think about. Anyone else care to chime in? |
