Yes, sound proofing... keeping the bad sounds OUT of your space. What you do inside to tune the space is up to you.
There are several issues with building a vocal booth; 1) keeping extraneous noise out of the inside of your booth, 2) keeping good sound inside the booth, 3) treating the area for acoustically proper nuances, 4) tuning the vocal isolation booth for RECORDING or tuning the space for editing/production or both, 5) keeping the booth properly ventilated, 6) keeping the acoustics properly tuned when adding cables, stands, desks, lighting, etc.; and so on.
Foam is an acoustic treatment, not a sound reduction tool like the MLV (I am sorry if I gave the impression that one would not have to use the foam to treat the room or space acoustics).
Rolls are the better way to go at approximately 4' x 25' for a bit over $120.00. That is 3 plywood panels at full height for that price. floor roof, and the other panel will be extra.

In my (58" x 58") booth I used two rolls to do the floor, walls, and ceiling, with a bit left over. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

My favorite acoustics guru Rod Gervais finds it a much more expensive method to add mass, but I suppose if space is at an absolute premium, it works. More Drywall and GreenGlue has been a much better way to go in my designs. I installed MLV a few times and it was a total bitch to handle. It can be used as a membrane in a bass trap, as RealTraps and GIK uses in some products. http://www.gikacoustics.com/scopus-tuned-bass-trap-product-video/ _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.
