Please pardon the hysteria. My source's source was apparently unreliable. I find it "interesting" that this writer "would love to give you in-depth knowledge as to what went on 'in the room' especially about SVOD (Subscription Video On Demand) but due to confidentiality agreements, [he is] not permitted to talk about it."
I guess we're supposed to trust the suits after all.
We shall see how the chips fall.
Quote: | Hello My Animation Friends,
There is currently a huge amount of misinformation going around the VO community about the "soon to be ratified New Cable Animation contract." The main parties who are spreading the "truth as they see it" were not even involved with the caucus/W&W/negotiating process until the very last caucus meeting a few weeks ago where the new terms were explained to all in attendance. I have been involved with and sat as a member of the 2014 Cable Animation Contract negotiating committee during the past 6 months.
I can no longer sit idly by and listen to half truths and out and out lies tear away at the hard work that was done to bring the Animation Community a good, solid contract. It's not a perfect contract. They never are. But it's a damn good contract and I am very proud to have "been in the room" to help negotiate it on your behalf.
There has been NO change to the residual formulas used to calculate our payments for reuse of animation work originating on cable or broadcast in the United States and session fee minimums will increase. All residual formulas we're working with currently in cable and broadcast animation are unchanged including those used to figure out our Internet Rental, Free and Syndicated TV, Domestic Cable, Pay TV, Video/DVD, Electronic Sell-through, Theatrical, Industrial and Foreign Exhibition payments. Bottom line: residuals are intact for cable and broadcast and if our work that starts on cable or broadcast is moved to any other platform, including new media/internet - everything is going to be paid as before at the same rates and in some cases at increased rates.
I would love to give you in-depth knowledge as to what went on "in the room" especially about SVOD (Subscription Video On Demand) but due to confidentiality agreements, I am not permitted to talk about it. But please know, we did NOT give away the farm in this new contract.
Thank you all for your passion and talents in the animation world. If you have any questions about the new contract, I will do my very best to try and answer them if I am able/allowed. Feel free to email me and please forward this on to your animation friends so they can be fully informed too. Every story has two sides and now you have more information for helping to form a more in-depth opinion.
Cheers,
Bob Joles
