I'm new to voice over and I am trying to learn as much as I can about the industry and how to succeed in it. I've already found a coach. I'll hopefully be starting my first session with Nancy Wolfson soon. With that being said I still want to be learning every minute I have available to me so I was hoping you guys could suggest some books that you have found to be very helpful and knowledgeable. They don't even have to be directly related to voice over but that would be ideal.

Jason,

If you look in the Research and Development forum of this board, you'll find an entire thread devoted to answering your very question.

Also, as most VO books are about as much use as a set of head rests on a Rhinoceros, you could invest 20 minutes per day trawling the archives on this board. Off the top of my head i can think of subjects covering, launching your new business, marketing, financial guidance, targeting, performance skills, lots of Dos, plenty of Don'ts and far too much inane wittering but if you exclude me from your searches you'll never see it.

All the above advice is excellent, but to give you a head start, here are a few resources, provided through the generosity of some of our VO-BB members:

Peter O'Connell created the "Voiceover Entrance Exam." Worth checking out: http://www.audioconnell.com/index.php?src=gendocs&ref=thevoiceoverentranceexam&category=workshop

Paul Strickwerda offers this:

And last, but not least, Doug Turkel has created this free e-book: http://voiceovertalent.com/blog/2012/05/voiceovertalentebook/

Presence by Patsy Rodenburg. I think it's called by another title in the US, Second Circle something or other. ...
Just read it with your craft in mind. You can thank me later.

Edit:

On reflection, I should point out that it's not a book about voiceover as such, but then it's everything you need to know as well. Works for me. A not-so-secret weapon anymore....

Should really start a complete thread about this book.
