as expected, perceptions change.....

....the Great River is a LOT better with my 416, and if I run it clean enough it gets close to the sound of the Grace with the U87ai....(a combination that I like)

....oops, looks like I had the HPF switch engaged on the Grace when I was trying it out with the 416, and was then cutting 80hz (like I always do with that mic)...looks like the Grace may be back in the lead....

I don't doubt that you'll like the Grace, but I know when I was researching the GR (never pulled the trigger on one), almost everyone who ever owned one and got rid of it said they regretted it.

the great thing about this is that is has forced me to really look at how I have been gain staging the Great River. I think I've been running the output too hot, which on the 87 and 416 makes them sound kind of hard.

When I hit the input harder and dial back the output, it really flatters these two mics. It's colored, but very clear.

The Great River is not going anywhere cool
