I'm just wondering of those of us here working with agents how many choose to work with multiple agents? Some of the vo books I've read recently seem to imply it's best to only have one, but that doesn't make sense to me. If we can have one in every state, why not do it?
As always, your thoughts and comments would be highly valued. _________________ Joni Lambert

It's a question of the amount of work you want. Seriously, think about what you just said, 50 agents. If half sent you auditions on any particular day, and you had 3 jobs already lined up. It just doesn't seem realistic. Plus, I can't remeber hearing that Wyoming, the Dakotas and Montana really have booming VO markets.
The most I have seen is , I think, six agents representing one talent. Once you reach the upper ranks, one agent will do. I personally have four. |

50 agents would, of course, be excessive. I currently have one and would like to expand and work more. 4-5 sounds reasonable. Thanks! _________________ Joni Lambert

I've got two, and I will soon have three.
And I've yet to book work through any of them. So far, I've found all my work myself. (Granted, it's only been a few months since I got representation. But still.) |

I had a prospective agent in Austin, Texas tell me that to sign with her I could only be signed with a maximum of 3 agents, anywhere in the world. She said there'd be too much competition for the same jobs due to all the work coming through the Internet and she didn't want to get into a duel with another agent or keep losing out to another agent. I tried to explain to her that I have 5 agents and that I almost never get the same audition from any of them! It didn't matter.
I have two different agents in Atlanta and they send me the same audition maybe 3 times out of the 100 combined auditions they send me in a year. I always choose to send the audition to the agent who signed me first in case of a "tie", partially for loyalty, but also because it would be incredibly foolish to submit two auditions for the same project.
I say, until you become a big star, the more agents the merrier!
