Okay, so it isn't offically "Gear" in the sense of hardware, but I know folks here are often (silent 't') on the lookout for these kinds of programs.

Well, I recently upgraded my computer and as a result, could not longer use my old home-made, bastardized, customized Filemaker Pro invoicing system; at least not without upgrading Filemaker Pro, which I was disinclined to do at the price involved.

Anyway.....as a result of my searching, I discovered Manager. I downloaded it, installed it, and played around with it a bit. So far, I'm liking it a lot. I keep looking for the 'catch', but I've yet to find one. It can be as simple or as elaborate as you need it to be, you can use it on your Desktop (Mac, Windows or Linux), or you can use it as a cloud-based program. There are video tutorials available, and a user forum. And to top it all off...it's free.

No, I don't get anything for referring it (at least I don't think I do), but for those of us for whom QuickBooks is overkill, and simple online invoice generating isn't quite enough, this may work out just fine.

Just figured it was worth sharing.

I am quite impressed with Manager, and surprised. It seems complete and easy to navigate.

I use Quicken Home and Business and it works well. But it does have it's drawbacks. Quickbooks is so much overkill for the VO business I couldn't use it effectively.

Always on the lookout for something new. Thank you for the heads up.

You're welcome, Frank. Yeah, I'm very impressed so far. There were one or two things I've wondered about in terms of customizing invoices, so I posted the questions on their forum. Within a day or so, I had responses with specific instructions. I only wish I discovered the program a few years ago.

I've been using a simple spreadsheet I threw together and PayPal for invoicing. This looks pretty awesome. And the guides offered to show you how to do everything look nice too.

Thanks for bringing this up. I may have to give this one a try.

Okay, a little update. I didn't realize it because I downloaded the Desktop version, but apparently the Cloud version and the Server version of the software both do have a cost attached, so it isn't necessarily free after all. As it happens, I much prefer to have a version on my computer than just residing "in the cloud", but to each his own.

Just wanted to clarify.

Clouds are for rain and snow, not for my software of personal files. If you want to put your finances on the cloud then you may as well shout to the world "here is how much money I have, come and get it".

I do not want my finances on the cloud, I want them where I control them aned who sees them.

Just sayin'.

I love Quicken Home and Business 2010. At least as much as you can love a piece of software that ONLY WORKS ON WINDOWS!!!

That feels better.

This program works so well for me that a year ago I used a $100 best buy coupon and trotted off to buy an 11.6" Acer PC laptop just for Quicken H&B 2010. Total cost around $100.

The program is legacy now, so there's no downloading of data anymore. But that feature was buggy at best. And I'm close enough to retirement to know buying the 2015 version is silly.
