How many times has this happened? You go to record as normal (you haven't changed a thing) and suddenly you're not getting any levels into your DAW. ugh. I see levels on the meters in both the RME ADI-2 and GAP73. And can see a low, consistent level in my DAW (Amadeus Pro). But no fluctuation in levels when I speak or actual audio getting through.
Had to switch to a USB mic with Amadeus Pro and no problem!

Tried switching mics and preamps and the mic cable...and still nothing.

I'm sure it's something simple (a setting or button) I'm overlooking but frustrating!
Ideas?

A mic plugged into a line input? That's all I've got.

Did you install anything new (software)? Did you change parameters in Skype... or even use Skype recently? Have you adjusted or changed parameters in any audio or video related software? Have you checked you USB/firewire/thunnder-puppy cables?

There are so many problems associated with the new Mac OS and audio programs/editors lately it would pay to start at the beginning with your Apple control panel. Reset EVERYTHING. And.... Good luck!

Crisis averted. I just noticed the Toslink cable was dislodged from the back of the Mac-mini's input! Easy to overlook. Knew it was something simple. Lesson learned: check all your connections and buttons; input/out settings, etc.
Whew!

Thanks guys for the quick troubleshooting!

BTW: Getting a new Mac-Mini today or tomorrow...moving from Snow Leopard. Hope the transition goes smoothly!

For what it's worth... I just transitioned from a MacPro with Snow Leopard to a new iMac with Yosemite. I'm using:
Twisted Wave
Adobe Audition CC (+Premier Pro etc.)
Izotope RX
Audio Hijack
MediaHuman Audio Converter
Audient iD22 interface & software
Focusrite 2i2 interface

... no problems at all... except that once in a while, it decides to switch the default audio output from the iD22 to Airplay when swapping programs (but it seems to be only when switching between Adobe CC programs).

Yes Bish, that is ONE of the reported idiosyncrasies with the Mac toys. There are many more.

i'm running a hackentosh - updated to mavericks no problem - with MOTU 896HD. i am knocking wood here, because this is a minor issue - but ... at random, maybe 3 times a month i lose audio playback from audition. i save, close AA, reopen the file and all is well for a couple more weeks.

odd.
