Thought I'd resurrect this thread than make a new one. Half a vent, half a disbelief.
[This new thread is referring to THIS THREAD about Voice Bunny. It goes against our style book to resurrect old threads, so we're referencing it here. ~Admin]
I got an audition request for voicebunny. Why I'm still there, I have no idea. Never got a job from there. My "high rates" are prob why. (Read: fair rates) Anyway...
The project is this: $1 to audition and my "reward" is $16 if I'm chosen for the 2 min read. Wow... Where do I begin? I won't. No point in it.
I naively thought when voice bunny first came out that it would be a decent resource. People need something quick and are prepared to pay quick turnaround prices. Sounded like a good idea. I thus created a price structure there that I felt fair for a 24 hr turnaround. Of course I've never been contacted.
It boggles my mind how someone wants something lightning fast but won't pay for it. How on earth did their platform get so rock bottom? Was it planned this way or did it just fail and this is where things ended up?
At the risk of sounding elitist, I don't want to turn my computer on for $17 |

FWIW, the Bunny, (according to their own web site), keeps what looks like 70% of what a client pays for their audio.
This is an entirely non-judgmental sentence regarding the relative appropriateness of such business practices, intended to ward off potential constable summoning. _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

considering that the gub'ment lets me keep about 40% of what i earn ...

Ah, apologies for that. I'm used to getting flamed in other forums for "not using the search function" and posting a new thread. Haha... Makes one nervous to post anything new; just find one very similar and tack on to it.
On a side more, just curious. If I find a thread that's a few years old but have a question regarding something specific someone said in it, do I need to make a new thread and reference the older thread? Or it's ok to bring back that thread? (Sorry to derail my own thread. Didn't see anything in the FAQ) thanks! |

Wow. I remember looking at that pie graph. Didn't look at it in that way. Regardless of what they do with it, yeah, they are still getting 70%.

We don't have a specific age at which threads become too old to "resurrect" but "a few years" would certainly qualify. Links to old threads are much preferred, or even lifting a quote, putting it in a quote box and identifying who said it, if it clarifies things.
Please resurrect responsibly.

Zombie threads can be fun... they provide a glimpse into the past and make many of use slap our forehead at what we said in the middle of a old discussion. For those of us who started this VO malarky within the last 10 years or so, it is quite interesting to see how our own attitudes/experience/expertise can change. Different boards have different policies. Any Zombies that appear on VOBB will be beaten back with a cricket bat.
I don't think rejecting a $17 VO job could be considered as elitist... so no worries there.
As for the Bunny... I cannot see any discussion about that bloody rodent without hearing "Don't Be The Bunny" from Urinetown (at least Monk will appreciate that one).

Actually, we do have an age that qualifies as "too old":
Quote: | Please don't add a new post to a thread that's over a month old.
The doggone dates are just too easy to miss.
Have a blast scouring the archives here but please do not resurrect ancient threads. Start a new one with a reference to the old one. Grab the URL of the thread you like and put it in your post. |

As for the bunny.... let it die. The bunny only works if it is made into house slippers.

That Stylebook from 2006 had been a great improvement over instructions given in 2004...
