About ready to frame the walls. Going to use Green Glue and use Roxul for insulation. Then ran across this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIxwNvhCoy4

That's an impressive switch they designed to turn on the jackhammer motor when he lifts the lid
Seriously, haven't heard of this stuff, but if it really does that, it's pretty amazing |

Dude! That stuff is amazing. Here is another video:
https://vimeo.com/123010204
One note is that the data on their site shows that it only reduces about 8 or so dB more than a standard wall at 125hz. So the lows still get through. On the video here there is 130dB inside the box, but nothing (that the camera picks u outside the box...but the data only shows an STC rating of 53 (lower than a wall with two layers of drywall and green glue inside and out). So maybe the wall with GG AND that Acoustiblok would proved some great soundproofing. They don't have any numbers of the Acoustiblok vs MLV. I'd be interested to see. I requested a quote to see how much the stuff actually costs. |

Sorry to be cynical (no surprise though) but wouldn't this be referred to in other industries as floor mat. I'm thinking Emperor's New Clothes here.
If it doesn't take the low frequency sounds down to the point of being inaudible (and it doesn't, right ?) it's not worth the hefty price tag. We did MLV in my booth when we built it some years back..GG was not being sold widely then if at all..never heard of it then) I would not use MLV now,..I don;'t think there's a good ratio of bang to buck.
Green Glue and drywall and fiberglass insulation and air space..and you're golden
Besides Rick, you're out in the country...Maybe a cow will moo once in a while ? |

I just wanted to know if anyone had used it or was familiar with it. There are a lot of other applications. I was thinking full face helmets for the kids. You can't be too safe. Even when you're at the dinner table. _________________ Never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the Paramedics

Ok, I got some info from the company. It is about $2.50 to $3/sqft (depending on the amount ordered). I talked with Paul, and he seemed very knowledgeable. We discussed my booth construction and he actually recommended that I do something other than use Acoustiblok. He wanted details about the project before he recommended I use their product. That gives me at least some confidence that the company isn't just trying to sell a product, they are trying to provide a solution...even if they end up not BEING that solution. |

That IS good to know. Are you going to provide him details on order to find out what he recommends? _________________ Never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the Paramedics

Yep, I sent a very detailed email about the current build and what I want to accomplish and he recommended that I deal with the windows (which he believes are the weak link in my design) before doing anything else. He was also willing to talk on the phone about the project. I personally prefer to have stuff in text unless it is too difficult to explain without a conversation, just so I can reference comments more easily. I'd be willing to bet that you could just have a conversation with him and know whether or not it was worth investing in their product over MLV (or another solution).
From my limited price research, it looks like it is about 2-3 times the price of MLV and I found some MLV STC numbers and they look pretty close to the same. MLV's overall STC is about 27 and Acoustiblok is about 26. They both dip down to about 13ish when you get down below 250hz. I think it really depends on the design and installation as to whether it is worth it or not. But, a conversation doesn't cost anything |
