In another thread someone bemoaned the decrease in activity on the VO-BB lately. For me, it's simply because I moved from the horrible confines of big city life (Atlanta) with its snarled traffic, congested humanity, crime, muggy humidity and wretched pace of living.... to God's country on the western slopes of CO, about midway between Grand Junction and Telluride/Silverton.

Went from a city of 5 million to a town of 20,000. Other than spotty internet and a few too many critters on our 2.5 acre homestead, it's the best decision of my life.

And here's how the wife and I spend most free moments, which takes me AWAY from the office and the internet, thus less time on forums. This was yesterday's ride to Telluride, 57 miles from our front door:

Welcome to CO! I live a few hours north of you, just west of the continental divide, but away from the cities. It's wonderful here, innit? Wink

CC,where are you? I'm in Montrose, one hour south of Grand Junction. I'd LOVE to meet up with you sometime soon.

(oh, and yes, "wonderful" is the understatement of the century!)

Hi Scott, we're just north of Central City and Black Hawk, so probably about four hours away from you. But, that shouldn't stop a "meet and greet"! Wink

Bummer. ESPECIALLY a bummer having to leave CO for MI (IMO). Where in CO were you, Jason?

Let's plan one, CC, maybe for the spring? Meet halfway? If the weather's good it'll be an excuse to ride the bike there.

I was in Colorado Springs. A little ways from Montrose, but I've been there Smile Gorgeous country. My wife never could get used to the altitude, cold summer nights and bears and mountain lions (though we never saw any of them). MI was definitely a better fit for us. Having much happier wife is a good thing Laugh though I will miss the mountain biking, no bugs, no humidity part of it.

Very nice, but I think you'll see a bit more snow than you did in 'Lanta.

Scott I always thought you were more of a chuck-it-all-and -sell t-shirts on the beach kind of guy, cool

...but it just goes to show, ya never can tell.

Congrats on the move.

Spring in the Rockies is still replete with snow. Unless you're talking LATE spring. We commonly will get snow dumps in early May...

Keep me posted on your schedule and let's see if we can work something out!

Actually, you'd be surprised. Mild winters were a MUST for me, a Southern boy.

Where we live is in a fertile agricultural valley known as the "Banana Belt" that, at 5700' elevation, lies outside of the brutal winter areas. While ironically less than an hour south of us are ski areas like Telluride, the Montrose area where we live only averages around 10-20" of snow annually. I've been told by many people here that it is not unusual to wake up to an inch or two of snow, only to have it evaporated by midday, due to the low humidity and mild climate. I've also been told there are days here when there might be snow on the ground and you can go out in a t-shirt due to the sunshine and low humidity. Also, very much UNLIKE Atlanta, we have no a/c in the house here, because you don't need it! Talk about low utility bills! (Plus, the house is heated by a wood pellet stove; total winter heating costs: about $500).

That's pretty much how Colorado Springs and Denver were. It snowed but it almost never accumulated. Maybe a couple times a year the snow would stick around. It was always weird to look outside and see the sun shining bright with no snow but then open the door to 20 degrees when it LOOKED like it should be 75 Smile I sure did love how many sunny days there were. It's sunny most of the year.
