|
|
OK, I've tested it with somebody else, and figured out how to connect, and change the settings to my mic/headphones.
However, the studio recording me says my level is way too low, and I have no idea how to change it...? I've upped the gain on my M-Audio, I've played with the slider on SCN, and nothing changes.
I'm sure it's something simple, but I can't figger it out. What am I doing wrong? _________________ Always look on the bright side of life.

Check the audio input/output on Source Connect and make sure that it has chosen your audio interface (M Audio) and not your computer's soundcard as it's audio device. |

It was definitely my microphone, and not the computer (they're in two separate rooms). I did select it on the SCN page.
So, it was my microphone, just at a REALLY, REALLY low volume... _________________ Always look on the bright side of life.

Yeah, you just went over my head. I know NOTHING about my equipment... I haven't touched anything on my mic, or on the M-Audio (except turning up the Mic Gain).
I'll probably have to just try it again, with someone who can walk me through trouble-shooting the problem in real time... Thank you for trying!! _________________ Always look on the bright side of life.

Phantom power is how the microphone gets the electricity from the interface. It's usually a push button with the words "48V" next to it.
The pad is the switch that would attenuate the signal on the microphone to eliminate certain frequencies. If you don't know which one is "On" try it pushed both ways. _________________ http://www.paulstefano.com |

Are you using the same equipment and using the same settings/adjustments that you use when making a recording on your computer? Do you get reasonable levels in your recordings? If you get good recordings, then you have good equipment connected together, and you have good volume settings.
If the above is accurate, then maybe we have isolated your problem to being some adjustment or setting in your interface with the Source Connect.
If you are getting good levels on recordings you make locally, they begin assuming you need guidance on what can mess up the relationship between your machines audio and your Source Connect, and you can forget (for now) worrying about gain settings on the mic channel, etc. |

This is a big "yes," and why I'm so loathe to just start pressing buttons and flipping switches in an effort to diagnose the problem -- my current settings are great, and my audio is hunky-dory, and I don't want to mess that up.
Oh, and I'm on a Mac. For what that's worth. _________________ Always look on the bright side of life.

Things that make you go.... Hmmmmmmmm!
Our primary task is the ART of putting things into human voice, but there is a big part of me that is a wrench-twirling table-saw grinding mechanical buff. My logic is that an external analog-to-USB converter turns a given sound into a finite number and hands it off to our computer (and computer-type) devices so the gain level should be the same whether I plug my audio digitizer into a Windows device, a MAC device, an Android device or whatever. But THEORY only goes so far. I know when I move the USB cable from my main recording computer over to one of my non-windows devices, the audio level is captured exactly 3 dB lower that it is in Windows 7 with Audition.
What's up with that?????
I hope someday to meet the teckie who can explain to me why that happens, and how to predict that it might happen, but more importantly, how to fix it when it does happen.
But I can completely understand your reluctance to start messing with controls and settings you don't understand. May your tribe increase! |

You might consider a team viewer session with George Whittam |

Yeah, it takes a special kind of insane to keep trying to tweak to get better. I'm "that" guy. I just completely tore apart my setup to add a homemade Harlan Hogan Porta booth. It turned out really well, and my sound is actually much better, but it could have just as easily gone the other way! _________________ http://www.paulstefano.com |
