I use primarily a traditional Windows tower computer in my office/studio. I have no camera that connects to a computer. I would like to join the 20th century. (I know, I know... this is the 21st Century... but I am WAY behind.)

What would be a good camera that would work with Skype, Google Hangouts and other software in use today. I don't want to spend several hundred dollars until I know how I end up using the thing, but I have a feeling that the $29 and $39 specials probably are not the way to go.

My Logitech (model # v-u0017) works great.

Especially since it came from a friend in the Corporate World IT Dept. who pilfered it from from a cabinet where they had "like 50 stuffed in there left over from some training course and weren't using any more". His suggestion, not mine. Win-win.

Logitech is a safe way to go with lots of choices.

They have very few choices for Mac by the way but I found one. It has stereo microphones! Not sure I'll ever use that feature but I've got it.

I love my Logitech C920. 1080p, works on PC or Mac, great Carl Zeiss lens and it even has a threaded bottom to attach to a tripod if you want to use it for more than just a webcam Smile There is a control app for Mac that allows you to control the camera settings (it is actually the C910 control app but it works with the C920 just fine). Can be had on Amazon for about $70. With correct lighting you can get REALLY fine results.

I believe George Whittam uses a C910 for his shows/recordings...or at least he did the last time I asked.

I have a Logitech C270 and a C310. These days, they can each be had for $30 or less and are perfectly serviceable (with my PC; no idea if either works with a Mac).

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm having to guess what I will eventually want this thing to do. The lower end cameras seem to come with a VERY wide angle lens which means you can put it on your monitor and sit just a couple of feet away. The wide angle will capture a lot of real estate behind me. I would like to pay just a bit more and get maybe even an adjustable lens so I can back the camera away from me, and the entire view will take in a small space behind me which can be a small curtain or some civilized book shelf or something. My studio/work-space is a multi-tasking area and a wide angle lens is going to bring a lot of chaos into view. I don't really want the whole world to know that some days I am a bit of a slob who is behind on house cleaning and organizing. Sarcastic We are used to watching fellow v-o folks using their studio as a back drop. For non v-o related communications I want a "cropped" picture with no pop filters, no acoustical foam, etc.

C6xx series or C9xx series from Logitech, currently using the C930e.
