paul --- here's as honestly as i can put it:
#1 - what bob said.
#2 - the agent we think you might be speaking of will send you every voicebank lead that floats over the transom. if you're looking for practice, this is awesome. if you're looking for work ... not so much.
that said - i like them - a LOT - they are super people and (since i am in illinois) i have booked some local (chicago) work through them ... but i ignore 97% of what she sends.

Are we riffing on Jeff's guess here?
I have a different take on agents. I have a fine collection simply because I'm a niche talent and no one expects me to eat if I put all my eggs in one basket. I am expected to play the field. I don't list my agents as it would be too long a list and would look (to my mind) slightly off. However, If I had a single high-powered, A-list agent, I would probably use their name as their reputation would enhance mine.
Let's not forget... your first agent is a landmark. Congratulations. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

i, in no way, meant to minimize paul's milestone (congrats, paul) --- i was just expanding on bob's comment that some agencies are better at getting a fella work than others. i have no experience with one of the agents on paul's website --- but i do with the other --- just passing along my opinion. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Iīm not really sure who youīre thinking of but the agent Toddīs thinking of canīt possibly be the one Kaferīs talking about because I get stuff from her I see nowhere else. On a rare occasion Iīll get something that I get from one of my other union agents, but 9 out of 10 times, itīs unique to her agency. _________________ www.melissaeXelberth.com

OMG people. stop beating around the bush, I listed them both on my website. Just go look if you like!
These are my 1st two signings, and I'm in no position to be judgemental. I'm also pretty proud of getting the offers, so I listed them.
I appreciate all the feedback. I'll definitely try to keep my eyes and ears open to the process as I progress further. In the meantime, I'm game for any work or just practice this experience gives me while I keep improving. _________________ http://www.paulstefano.com |

Yep, I get unique stuff. So do the other 500 people of each gender on her roster. And that's not an exaggerated number. _________________ Jeff

One out of 500 is still better odds than one out of five gazillion. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Another milestone step in your VO path. Congratulations Paul. It's about evolution not revolution.
Like the other Mr B I am a niche voice so only look for and do work that requires me. I am extremely lucky to have people looking after me who get the concept of casting - JFPO (Just ****ing Pick One).
Step 1 - Client narrows field by listening to demos.
Step 2 - Client contacts agent/agents to either book the voice of choice (great branding statement, you can have that) or ask for a few voices to submit a custom audition.
Step 3 - Voice told about job or asked to audition.
Step 4 - Chosen voice does job and buys another MASSIVE YACHT
Out of interest. In the international VO "Buy a MASSIVE YACHT just for larks competition" Dan is ahead of me at 37. I will try to catch up but have to recover from a typing error (I suspect foul play Mr Nachtrab) which resulted in a lorry delivering to my home a MASSIVE YOGHURT! |

hi x --- it is. i've had decent luck booking chicago jobs through susie (my son got one through her too - in 2nd grade) - but all the stuff with the "yellow boxes" (after almost 7 years) i pretty much ignore. again --- i REALLY like her --- and do book jobs occasionally --- but the mass volume that comes in (i think) can be misleading. or maybe that's just me. that's why i added "jmho-ymmv" after my 1st post. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Bumping this to ask another question. I actually private messaged somebody, and they thought it might be good for the group.
So, as you know, I am now on Voicebank with 1 agent, and have listings coming shortly with 2 more. To land these agents, I just sent them my studio produced demo from Edge. I guess they liked it.
My other demos (elearning, audiobook and explainer) are all produced by me. They are not bad in my opinion but certainly not as good as the studio demo. Should I ask the agents to put those up on Voicebank too? Does it even matter? Or should I just let them send me auditions and not worry if my only Voicebank demo is the commercial?
Thanks,

Does your agent have categories that your demos fit? If so, ask them if they feel the demos are competitive enough to add to their voicebank account. |

Thanks Bob. I did just that. Would be interested in hearing any dissenting opinion; although now that Bob has spoken not sure why there would be _________________ http://www.paulstefano.com |

Certainly pass the demos on to your agents. They need all the information possible to aid success... remember, it's a partnership... you succeed, they succeed.
However, personally I would refrain from telling them (or even suggesting to them) what to do. If they think your demos showcase you well, they will add them where they see fit. You requesting them to add them to Voicebank may be seen as you trying to micro-manage them... and that may not be well received (especially from someone new to their roster). Also, some agents treat Voiceband as their private domain and somewhat separated from the actual talent. They may not want you thinking you can paddle in their pool.
Either way, I wouldn't do anything until you are established with them. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish
