to clarify the baby shoe story --- i DID get a business card from everyone i gave a shoe - then followed up afterward --- i did not wait for them.
if i got no reply after sending a proposal 10 days later i sent another one - except after i printed it - i wadded it in a ball, sort of smoothed it out - added a coffee cup ring & jammed it thoughtlessly into an envelope with a post-it note saying "please don't throw this away again". that one got a call back almost every time. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Spot on.
And exactly why, over the years, my marketing has included bubble gum, 1,000 sets of plastic
chattering teeth, flip-flops, broken sunglasses, business card copy stands and lots more wacky stuff.
I still have clients who mention their favorites more than 20 years later. _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

Unfortunately, "quirky" in the hands of someone who doesn't have market awareness or a feel for their own persona is destined to fail. Someone with an over-inflated sense of their own "uniqueness" can become a very disquieting... if not disturbing.... or just plain obnoxious. Peers may tell them how wonderful they are, but clients will see them as a egotistical flake, and maybe not the one to enter into a business relationship with.
Maybe I'm a little jaundiced... but I'm sure, with a little effort, you can think of some people who fit the bill here (especially if you frequent the lower depths of social media). _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Very true. And it's also true of any branding/marketing approach.
It's vital to understand your brand and your audience. That way you can craft your marketing to ensure that the two are in alignment. _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)
