I bought a new MacBook Pro a day before my wife and I found out it'll cost $37,000/yr out-of-state tuition/room/board to send my oldest daughter to the University she wants.
I love my daughter....but that's almost prohibitive.
Long story short: Wherever we send her, I probably can't afford this beautiful beast of an Apple.
It's literally out of the box 2 days...I haven't even had a chance to install the Parallels desktop that allows you to run Windows XP simultaneously. I haven't even taken the certified copy of Windows XP out of its wrapper. I HAVE kept the MacBook Pro in the neoprene case I bought for it, though.
All the bells and whistles....2.16 Ghz Intel Core Duo, 120 Gig HD, 2 Gigs Ram, 17" display, Bluetooth, AirPort, DVD +RW...yada yada yada... I can send all the specs for anyone interested...
....and that's what I'm wondering.
ANYBODY INTERESTED?
Retail pricetag from MacMall was over $3,000.00 (without shipping)...told ya it had everything.
I'll accept $2800 before it goes on E-Bay.
2 days old!!!
Let me know ASAP.

Good Lord!
Is she going to Julliard?
That is a VERY nice Mac. I wish you could keep it. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

No, just Big-10...University of Illinois (my alma-mater)...but kids of grads get no respect for tuition there if it's out -of-state.
I wish I could keep it too....but c'est la vie... it gives me the catalyst to do more VO work, so I can own it some day WITHOUT the guilt.
Thanks DB,

Hell, that's why student loans exist.
Remember, that Mac is a tool for your work and deductable, as well. |

All true, but didja know the gov't just upped the percentages on student loan paybacks? She may get a scholarship, but no one gets grants or financial aid if you make over a certain amount ....so that leaves...guess who?
Also my wife would argue that in the last year I've already invested plenty of deductibles in the old home studio to get the VO biz up 'n' running.
Naw, it was just a weak moment on the web... 'love to keep it, but the budget won't handle it.

Dave.....That's the exact machine I bought a couple months ago. I feel your pain of having to get rid of it. Now that I have it, I could never part with it. Truly an awesome machine. My kid would be going to Podunk U if it was a choice between giving it up and keeping it. hahahahaha.....just kidding, but I understand how it must feel to have to give it up. _________________ TG2

Final Chapter:
Sold it on E-bay at a "Buy-It-Now" price just $100 under my purchase price...which means I rented a cutting-edge MacBookPro for 2 weeks at $50/wk. Now that I'm totally spoiled...I'll get the MacBook Pro with the Intel Core 2 Duo, instead of just the Intel Core Duo. I'd probably get the 200 Gig HD next time, too...
Thanks everyone!

Hey.....not too bad!
Now, that you managed to get out from underneath it you can post a smiley avatar......or is the face gonna remain because you no longer have that splendid machine? |

Hiya Dave!
Hey - I got a kick out of that other picture!
How'd it go on Thanksgiving? That musta been a long day - but don't worry, I had an extra plateful of all that good stuff, just because I knew you were stuck at work and would want me to! |

Hey, Don...at least I've managed to change my avatar since Talk-Like-a-Pirate day!!!!! ;-}
I survived the 5-newscast Thanksgiving juggernaut...I just wish someone had been watching.
Here's your invite to see our 3-hour live coverage of New Year's Eve... streaming live on our website (www.lasvegasnow.com). That's a mandatory work night for everyone here...we get to watch all the drunks, then watch all the fireworks.

I didn't put it there and I have no idea how to make it go away! I guess I could figger it out, but, well you know......

Those who did watch were treated to seeing the first team in action, they now know that they were important and not stuck with the second stringers. A small audience? Naw, it was an Elite audience, deserving of the best. |
