Many of us use M-Audio BX5 speakers. The appear to be widely available for $150 each, or $300 a pair.

Another happy BX5 owner here.

And a third one. Though I sadly had to sell off mine.

If you are using it for VO monitoring only then why buy two? Save some $$ and just buy one. Take a look at a the Avantone Mix Cube.

I have a single MixCube set up for mono-checking full production mixes (and occasionally use it for editing v-o)... despite its somewhat limited frequency range, the MixCube is surprisingly detailed and great at what it does.

Back in the day when radio stations and the radios we used to listen to them used to have lower quality than today, many studios I worked in had an alternate, really cheap speaker to listen to a spot with to imitate poor listening conditions. If it sounded good on a crappy speaker then you knew you were mixing it well.

Through the years I have read about radio station program directors who kept a "crummy radio or speaker system" in their office to "proof check" the jazzy production stuff they were producing in house and not let content cater to audiophiles rather than everyday listeners.

We had a cheap speaker in the production studio at my station. If I could have figured out a way to add road noise while using it, I would have done that too.

For some reason I was just reading an article about the Yamaha NS10's...

What a controversial monitor! Has anyone here used them?

I believe my buddy Cam Cornelius has a pair and is quite happy with them.
