|

Besides Craigslist and Ebay are there any sites that exclusively sell used equipment for musicians and VO artists? I actually need a boom to hang my mic from the top of my Vocal Booth. I've been sitting down so the current arm is pretty long. I'm trying to decide whether to get one of the "scissor" type arms or a fixed shorter arm.
Thank you, Blair |

In my 10+ years here I've seen mostly very positive results from those who buy on EBay. Maybe pro audio sellers are a nicer bunch of people.

I will say that I had a bad experience buying an ISDN codec from another voice talent on eBay. So while I hope it is rare, it's still buyer beware.
I would be interested in those sites that were listed above though. Thanks! _________________ We have nothing to fear but fear itself.

I've never had a bad experience with eBay, and I think their buyer protection has been ramped-up over the years, so I think it's pretty safe. On the other hand, Craigslist is a bear-pit.
As for the scissor type of arm... these are great for a difficult space, but beware those with external springs... they ring like a... well, a reverb spring! I had one, and while it was great for positioning the mic, I had to stuff foam between the springs and the struts to stop the buggers ringing! _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

I second what Bish said about eBay. I have bought a fair amount of equipment on the site and have been generally satisfied. I've even had relatively good success with Craigslist, although I've made only a few purchases (a workbench and a few computer monitors -- grand total less than $200). _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Having bought and sold numerous items on ebay, here are my rules:
1. Do your homework when it comes to the seller---check feedback and selling history.
2. Always use Paypal to CYA as a buyer.
3. Run, do not walk from sellers advertising a price that is unrealistically low, or who contact you directly and encourage you to buy outside of ebay. |

For something on the inexpensive side I usually just go with Amazon. It is super easy to get it quick and then if it doesn't work out for some reason, returns are typically easy and free (providing you are returning for the right reason).
Other than that eBay is where I always look to buy, but selling on eBay incurs at least a 13% commission to be paid so I prefer to sell on Craigslist or Letgo.com because they are free and you typically don't need to deal with shipping or the possibility of returns because the person can see the item before purchasing and make a decision on the spot. |

I actually bought two mic arms for my new booth in the hopes that I could hang it from the ceiling...turns out there is no locking mechanism so they are no good to me. Maybe you will run into the same issue?
In any case, if you want to buy one of mine we could work something out. We might hit unnecessary shipping expenses as I live in Canada but the strong US $ could work for you!
I have the RODE PS1A and the Heil mic arm. I want to hang onto one of them, but I don't mind which one. PM if you're interested.
Cheers,

The Facebook group: The VO Gear Exchange is another good one. I've sold a couple items on there. |

I have used the Rode PSA1 for like 4 years with no issues (other than it couldn't hold the massive 10# Lauten Atlantis). |

Nearly all of my gear has come from Guitar Center's used listings. I've gotten some awesome deals there - iTrack solo for $49, CAD E100 for $119, and a 416 for $579, and it's all been in excellent to like-new condition. Plus they have a 45 day return policy if something goes wonky. _________________ John Roorda
