VO-BB - 20 YEARS OLD!

Hi Everyone,

I've moved into a new home and just set everything up.

When I jumped in to start recording I noticed a very low tv or radio sound in the headphones. Restarted everything, everywhere twice. No idea whats going on. Any thoughts?

you are likely getting RF interference. i live near an fm radio tower & had the same problem. if that's the case - a ferrite choke should be an easy fix.

I bought a pair from radio shack. Installed them on both ends of the cable going from the mic to the scarlett and i'm still getting the signal. Any suggestions on which ferrite's to get? Or something else to try? Thank you!

Years ago, in a previous life, during the Dark Ages, I worked in broadcast radio when it wa almost ALL A.M. stations I don't know what happens today but back then the folklore in the industry was "You as a station has to get that fixed because if they complain to the FCC, you will be fixing it under the supervision of government folks." (Who wants to do that?)

If what you are getting is an FM signal, the suggestion solutions can be one thing.... if you are getting an AM signal, the solutions can be something else.

It is possible you are picking up the signal of a baby monitor next door. Do these new entryway locks that monitor your front door and signal your cellphone that someone is stealing the Fed Ex package put out a signal that could interfere next door? If you live in a multi-family type housing, the number of possibilities grows. Try to capture enough of the interference in a recording that will allow you to play detective and identify the origination, the content.

All of that to say: there is not necessarily one fix that works for every such occasion.

Great info! It's definitely FM radio...I can clearly hear the pop music.

There is a newborn next door and we also have ATT Uverse with mobile monitoring installed in our freestanding home!

Wow...install lead walls?

put the ferrite beads on your monitor cables just ahead of the speakers. see if that helps.

This happens to me occasionally. I pick up the local country station, which is painful, because that is about the only music I do not like. Sometimes I can adjust my mic cable, play around with it like an antenna, and it gets rid of it. Sometimes I can unplug the mic cable and plug it back in and it's gone. Sometimes nothing works, but my denoiser plugin takes it out super easy, so I just deal with it if I have to. But if it comes through every time for you, that'd be a big pain. Good luck!

If you could find out what station it is, contact their engineer. They sometimes help with getting rid of the RF. Good luck!!!

Are you sure the interference is NOT being picked up by your mic cable (or other input cable)?

First, disconnect the mic to rule out that IT is not picking up the RFI. If the RFI is still there, see if wiggling the mic cable at either end has any effect.
