Sadly, this phenomenon is not limited to the voiceover business.

Rant on, brother, rant on!

I will add that likely a partial reason for the paucity of older women in voice over is the fairer sex has not been widely employed in VO until just the past few decades, but still, the sexism is there and will hopefully abate anon. We just need more old, male producers to kick the bucket.

As long as my voice doesn't age along with my age, I don't see any reason why I can't keep working until I die. But I do get your point.

As I face my Medicare birthday in a few weeks, I am grateful that most of my work is done remotely and I don't need to see the youngsters I work with. I am sure many of them would consider me in the same category as their grandparents.

On the other hand, I am still quite hot, so there's that.

I'm really very glad I do a lot of remote work too (with video OFF!) because I sound younger than I am and really don't like to disappoint! Laugh

Think I might as well just be buried in me booth...

Oh dear, dear Philip, thank you for that rant.

I also sound much younger than I am, and am always self conscious when I meet people who've listened to me. When I went to the anime convention, I was so nervous about seeing the look on people's faces when they realize they are meeting their mom. Most of the fans of this game are 4th-8th graders, and we all know that's a very forgiving bunch. Meh

But you know, it gave me a chance to review what I think I'm worth, and where my value lies. Which is good. It's so easy to have how others see me become how I see me. So it's nice to get a wake up call every once in a while to re-evaluate what matters, and what I CAN control, and focus on that.

But it's nice to be reminded that there are those out there who are taking the time to look past the exterior.

Thank you!

Frankly, I found your message was driven home by the terror I felt at the sudden appearance of that wagging finger. Is it really THAT crooked...or was it simply an optical illusion?

Has it at some point been accidentally severed and then reattached at an angle? Well...no matter.

The horror remains. Your point made.

My psyche scarred. Laugh

Optical illusion. All fingers, so far, have remained attached to my hand.

I've been really busy and fell behind on checking the boards... but that was great, Philip Smile As a newbie to VO, I relate to your rant more in other parts of my career as a marketing professional.

Appearance is a double-edged sword - I realize my effort to look a certain way has gotten me jobs (and attention from guys Wink) but at the same time, when those fickle folks no longer find my looks appealing, the job (or the guy) can disappear just as quickly. And of course I try to keep in mind that if someone is that shallow, they're not worth working for (or being with)... but it makes it a bit harder to find what one is looking for out there, professionally or romantically.

Anyway, my adventure in VO is just beginning so I'm sure I have more to learn about how women are viewed in this business.

Whatever happened to the old saying, "A face for radio?" Rolls Eyes Laugh
