Do I have a cricket in my headset?
Recently, in the past few days, I started hearing a 'click' in my headset. But today I timed it. It happens every 30 seconds. It doesn't record, so I can't give a sample. But it is the same 'click' I hear when I click my mouse on the screen. The fact that it doesn't record, or interfere with recording, doesn't bother me. It's just driving me nuts trying to figure out why it is happening.

It sounds like one of the sounds windows makes as it refreshes. If you have the internet on while you are recording that could be it. Turn off all the system sounds on your pc and see if it goes away. You could also turn each system sound off till you found what it is. |

Bailey,
If you have a Windows OS you might try clicking on the speaker in the bottom right tray or whatever audio icon you see. If you can, unclick playback on everything one at a time and see if the sound stops.
Point in case. I use rhapsody and the program has a bad habit of making my soundcard "spacial" when it starts. I have to change it manually.
Have you loaded any new programs or updated anything that may be loading at startup on your computer? |

On the playback control...
With WAVE (muted) clicking stops, but I also hear no playback of recordings.
Current set-up:
Playback-open
Wave-open
CD Audio-open
Midi-open
Line in-mute
S/PDIF in-mute
Aux-mute
The latest programs loaded were SKYPE and Vinade Reminder (an appointment reminder program). _________________ "Bailey"

I'd be willing to bet that Skype is causing the problems... I seem to remember this issue coming up before (was it Mary who was having the problem with Skype?).
Make sure that Skype is completely shut down (no background aps) and if that doesn't do it, you may want to unistall it all together, as it does tend to hog your sound card!
Good Luck, and all the best for the holidays,

If you go "start", "run", then type "msconfig" you'll see a list of programs that load on startup. Unclick Skype, restart your computer and see if the click doesn't start. I don't have skype so I'm not sure that's what it'll be called, but you'll notice a name that'll (hopefully) look familiar. Be sure not to uncheck something important that should load when your computer boots.
Software companies are world famous for making their programs start when the computer boots so they'll open fast.
Hope this helps. |

I didn't find Skype in the msconfig listing. I then went into the control panel and changed the sound scheme to "no sounds". I can still record, monitor, and playback with no problem... and no 'clicking' sounds. The problem may be solved for now... untill someone tries to contact me, and I can't here the "sound" notification. _________________ "Bailey"

Bailey,
You can create a "custom" sound scheme that has the noises for only those things you wish. You start with how you have it now and then add sounds to the events you wish.
Go into control panel and open the "sounds and audio devices", click on the "sounds" tab and scroll down through the "program events" section. For example, one of the choices is "new mail notification". You can then assign a sound for that event only and that way still get your email notification. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.
