Todd,
Couple of questions?? Is the Mullard a recommended replacement? I see several manufacturers for this tube in a myriad of prices. I guess what I'm truly asking here is if there's a particular reason you chose the Mullard.
Also, I am a bit confused. You say you got a lifetime guarantee from Radio Shack, then say you got yours on e-bay??? Care to clarify?
I'm chompin' at the bit here since I heard your demos. Can't believe the difference. |

Doc - I chose the mullard based on information on several forums including http://www.gearslut.com - The mullard had some great reviews. I hear the RCA 12at7 is also a nice tube. As far as the lifetime guarantee goes - it's stamped right on the tube "Realistic LIFETIME". I called the local Radio Shack here and they said "yup, that's true." I haven't actually tried it - but it "the guy" at RS acted like it happens all the time. I looked at ebay again and I guess I got a bargain - looks like they are going for a bit more on average now. Check this guy out http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZ73olds88QQhtZ-1 this is where I got mine - he seems to have a lot of vintage tubes. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Todd,
You da man! Thanks for sharing and answering my query.
As of today, he has no Mullard's listed. However, $27.95 seems a bargain based upon the performance of this tube. |

I have two V69's. After lsitening to the differenmce, I just bought a pair of Mullard tubes for $29.99 + $5.00 shipping on eBay. It was a "buy now" deal. There are a lot of them listed on eBay.

I have to add, after the tube change, the MXL sounds sooooo much warmer and fuller. Now that is what I call a change for the better.
Toodles
