Being a hardware guy, this begs the question, why not just pick up a firewire PCI card and install it in your computer? I see many that are unloading firewire devices for this reason. Since firewire does have better throughput than USB 2.0, I would figure the minimal cost of a firewire card would be worth it. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

You guys really should stop saying "begs the question".
It's illogical.
Quote: | Begging the question in logic, also known as circular reasoning and by the Latin name petitio principii, is an informal fallacy found in many attempts at logical arguments. An argument which begs the question is one in which a premise presupposes the conclusion in some way. Such an argument is valid in the sense in which logicians use that term, yet provides no reason at all to believe its conclusion. |
-From the Wikipedia.
This is an example of begging the question:
Quote: | Paranormal phenomena exist because he has had experiences that can only be described as paranormal. |
"Raises the question" is a much neater phrase.
Yes, I know the use of "begs" is widespread. Yes, I know it is the accepted use in many places. We could say the same for "ain't".

I made the mistake of buying Firewire without looking at it. THe Focusrite Saffire was recommended to me so I bought it.
I have firewire on my laptop. I don't use the laptop for production.
I really want to go Pro-Tools and am not going to fork out the money for the Pro/Firewire solution as it is not needed. So there is no reason to buy a firewire card Since I can't go PT with this box and I'm already investing in a new laptop I'm selling it to offset the cost. |

Justin,
I hope you didn't take offense to my question. I'm just curious since I see this occur often. Perhaps I should have just started another thread. Since you are trading up to better equipment I'm sure you will be happier in the long run any how. As long as you have USB 2.0, the data transfer rate should be fine. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

You are correct of course. I actually fumbled around with how I wanted to state my question and was never really happy.
I beg your forgiveness. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

No offense taken... I'm only recording 1 voice, sometimes 2, maybe 3 at once. I really don't have the need for the Firewire stuff right now. It works great for you guys doing music too... I've been happy with my mobile-pre which is also USB so I don't forsee any issues with this either.
Again, no offense... it takes a lot more than that...

Now I always thought that "it begs the question" was just a more emphatic way of stating "what you said raises the question ______", i.e., "When you say your country is going to send three astronauts on a mission to the Sun next week, it begs the question, 'How are you going to accomplish such a seemingly impossible task?'."
That kind of statement begs a follow-up question.
The other country's answer of course is "We'll send them at night."

(Sorry for re-using an old chestnut, but my response begged for an outrageous question for illustration).
(Man, I'm glad I'm getting off the Percoset.)
