Hi,
I just opened up my Audacity to do some test recordings. When I hit record, I get "Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and project sample rate".
What do I need to do?

Thanks,
Tom

Hello my fellow Canadian VO!!!!

It's easy!!!... check the input device settings and project sample rate... Wink

In all likelihood you've simply made a recent software update or change and you need to re-install the drivers for your sound device.

I'm not at all familiar with Audacity, so forgive me for not being able to step you through the details of the program itself... each of the following steps may solve the problem, but if not simply move onto the next one...

Step 1 - Check to make sure that the audio sample rate in Audacity is set to one which is supported by your audio device (44.1 is the most common and should be supported)
Step 2 - Check to make sure that Audacity is set to use your primary audio device as it's input device
Step 3 - Kick your computer and perform ritualistic cursing and crying
Step 4 - Re-start your computer and see if that fixes the problem
Step 5 - Kick your computer again and continue ritualistic cursing and crying
Step 6 - Check to make sure that the actual sound device is properly connected to your computer, either via firewire, usb, or the physical pci slot inside the tower iteself
Step 7 - Re-install the drivers for the audio device
Step 8 - Uninstall any programs which you have recently installed or perform a "system restore" to a point at which you know everything was working properly
Step 8 - Re-install Audacity
Step 9 - Kick computer again, escalate cursing and crying, ask someone who knows more about computers than me!

Hope this helps!

Brian

Hi Brian,
I neatly avoided your 9 & a half step program, lol. All I had to do was restart my computer.
I had my hard drive repaired recently & re-installed Audacity.
To paraphrase the ol' rap tune...Me so Dummy, lol.
