It may be time for me to add ISDN. I already checked and it's available.

I have a few options when it comes to codecs and was hoping for a little info from those of you that have experience in this area.

Used Telos Zephyr Express - I can't find much on this one, here's a Hobo LaughingF.

Used Audio TX Communicator setup with dongle - We've talked about this one a lot.

Used Telos Zephyr Extreme - it's unlikely I can afford this one, but I'll include it as it is possible.

And finally, I do have access to an AEQ Eagle for free for a while. Could be 2 months, could be a year. I've been leaning towards using this one as long as I can before purchasing my own but I can't find very much info on this unit at all so I don't know how reliable it is.

Have any thoughts you care to share?

Thanks,

B

I've been using AudioTX for awhile now, with usually several sessions weekly. it works flawlessly, I'm really pleased with it.

Source Connect is up and coming though. Several producers I've talked with are thinking of making the leap.

If this client signs up I'll have to have ISDN, or schedule time at a local studio that has it. That's what they want.

I can speak to this a bit only because I talked at length with a rep of Musicam at the NAB Convention in Las Vegas last week. Musicam has a unit that is ISDN and IP ready. Thus, when ISDN has fallen by the way side at some point, the IP set-up is ready to go so you would be ready for now and later. It would seem like a really good unit in your case.

Visit www.Musicamusa.com and click on SUPRIMA...in your situation, I would honestly recommend you take a look at it.

Boy, buy the time you buy the unit and pay the monthly line charge...it can get expensive but if you have the work to pay for it, you will be in good shape.

Brian,

Email or PM me about AudioTX. I have only good things to say about them, too. Mine's been rock solid. But there's a thing or 2 you might want to know about getting things set up.

I have ISDN for my main studio and Source Connect when I am on the road.

I think Source Connect is great, I fully appreciate that there may be contention rate issues, but so far I have never had any problems. The tech support in Chicago and London is great. The only downside (for me) is I that bought it in early January when the exchange rate was much better for the dollar. hey ho!!!!

I've got a Zephyr Xstream that I bought new over three years ago. I leave it on 24/7, use it several times a day and it's been Xstreamly reliable. Built like a tank. Made to last. No compatibility issues or hassles with anyone. Connects quickly and efficiently every time.

Thanks all. Everybody I talk to loves the Zephyr stuff. It's the priciest option of course.

Getting good reviews on the Audio TX too.

There's a CDQ Prima up for sale now too I see.

Still thinking.

What does it cost for the initial install and then the monthly?

I gotta ask again about the install but the monthly here is $101.

Last time I set up ISDN (at a radio station 3 years ago) it was only $55 a month, no install fee but you had to sign a 2 year contract. Seems like that only included a certain amount of minutes before a per minute charge kicked in too but my memory may be faulty on that.

I have just learned that in Los Angeles, Installation is $151.75. If you need a jack (like who won't?!) that is $125.

Per month is $24.70 for "measured rate" which allows 200 hours of local "zone 1 & 2 calls" after hours,
or $74.90 for unlimited zone 1&2 calls.

Most of the calls you'll be dealing with is clients calling YOU, and were it NOT so, you'll be calling out of the "zone" anyway.

You'll need to choose a long-distance provider.

right. That's already on my mind.

I'm gonna pass on the Telos Zephyr Express. 2 minutes left on Ebay the snipers have got it way up now. It's still a good deal but not a great one anymore.

I love my Musicam Prima LT because I haven't had a connection problem with anyone in 3 years of use, but they don't come up on Ebay very often.

I pay a base of $61 a month. Install was free - 2 year deal. That $61 includes the $4.95 for the $.07/minute all the time deal, and all the taxes, etc.

I don't think (?) this is too bad.
