Hey all,

I've only been using Audition for a week or so and I looked through its help but didn't find anything.

When I set up a new recording, my only options for bit-depth are 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit (float), but my E-MU sound card records at 24-bit.

As a result, while I'm listening to stuff in Audition, I hear these little clicks and pops which I'm hoping are not actually in the resulting files but a result of the bitrate not matching. Is there no way to record in 24-bit mode in Audition?

I found this on the Adobe Forums.

And I've done a search over at Audiomasters forum. I'm not an expert on this but perhaps some of this info might help.

Thanks...I'd seen that first one, too. I guess it always records in 32-bit. Oh well.

Outside of your DAW software - 24-bit and 32-bit are the same thing.... there's no such thing as 32-bit digital audio - it's really just 24-bit.
Your software uses the extra 8bits for precise calculations internally.

Ahhh, gotcha.

Well then I guess I dunno why I'm hearing those little clicks and pops...if I go back and listen again, they're non-repeatable, so it seems like a glitch in the playback stream and not necessarily part of the audio itself.

check your drivers (I don't know your card but are you using ASIO or WDM?) and... your video card. I've had video cards cause that sort of thing before. Granted, it was an old PCI POS but it made the audio skip and sometimes there was a sound almost like bacon frying as the audio played back.

Check to make sure you're recording at 44.1khz (sample rate) instead of 48khz.

I'm using the current drivers for my video card and there aren't any updated drivers than the ones that came with the E-MU.

It's at 44.1Khz, thanks.

But it only happens in Audition. If I record in WaveLab Lite or Audacity, I don't hear the same things.

Lou, I'm using Cool Edit Pro 2.0 (precursor of Audition) and was having a similar problem. I don't know if this is still applicable in Audition 2.0 (or if this is the same type of skipping/clicking I had) but I changed my buffer settings and that helped.
