|
|
Hey all. I need to get a wall mount for my mic. I've seen a number of them by companies such as Luxo, OC White and one that's available on eBay all the time, but I'd much prefer to hear from other people here what their experience has been with ones that you all have used.
Obviously the thing needs to hold the mic in place without shifting / drooping. And it's probably best if it doesn't make those twangy spring sounds when being moved.
Here are the ones I've seen:
OC White:

The above sounds interesting, but it's really 'spensive. Actually it doesn't sound interesting on that link, but I've seen it other places that describe it in more detail. Supposedly it uses "quiet, super strong, soft gold music wire springs".
eBay:

Much cheaper but I'm skittish about it.
Luxo:

These are in-between, price-wise and of course Luxo's been around forever so that's something.
Any personal experience you'd care to share and recommendations would be greatly appreciated!! _________________ Lou Zucaro

I have this OC White boom, and I got the wall mount as well. Not quite as fancy as the one you've listed, but I've been very happy with mine. It's sturdy, quiet, and it stays where I put it. |

I have two of those E-Bay arms, as do several others from this thread. |

I have three Luxo booms and a couple of their wall mounts and desk mounts that I shuffle between. They've worked fine for several years now. The springs shouldn't be a problem as long as the talent isn't hanging from them like Cheetah while they read.

I got a different boom arm from EBay, but had to buy replacement springs from Lowes to handle the weight of my NT1000. I don't know how good the springs are on the one listed there. _________________ Donovan

If this helps, I have an RE20 on one and a Studio Projects C-1 on the other using the springs that came with it. The RCA 77 requires heavier springs. |

When my son was in the hospital, I noticed several pieces of equipment on booms that looked identical to the ones we use with the springs hidden inside the arms.
Now, do you suppose it costs more for "medical" or "broadcast" booms? Might be worth checking out. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Medical, definitely. I wasn't looking for that but I saw some accidentally while looking for the mic ones. Saw a few over $500 that I couldn't really tell apart from the mic versions. Yipes!
Another thing that I was amazed by is the price of wall-mounted keyboard / mouse shelves. The majority of the ones I saw were $200+. That's just crazy talk! _________________ Lou Zucaro

Of course there will be people in hospitals buying copies from China at 1/10th the price with photo's of operating theatres on the hospital web site showing the expensive stuff.
"Hello, I'm Dr Frimmel"
"Hi Doc. Can I see Dr Cheung please? He's as good as you but cheaper." |

I have been reading this thread with great interest. We're in process of building an isolation booth and I 'm looking at solutions for either a wall or desk mount boom mic holder. I've worked wth them at the radio stations and now want one for the booth so I can adjust height to standing or sitting... and conserve valuable desktop space. Really appreciate all the helpful resources. This is really great!!!! _________________ Bobbin Beam
