Moe,

As long as what we're grinding isn't grits, I'm good. Laugh

Chuck,

When you've read through this thread you'll understand my comment about grits a lot better. (Note: it's a long thread, over 5 pages.)

Christi,

I took your advice when I was recently visiting Niagara Falls. How often do you get a chance to enjoy a ride over the falls, I says to myself. So I went for it..... since I knew Dave would have done the same.

Man, was it ever refreshing! I still have water in my ear though Bitchin

It's a little geeky, I know, but take a look at this image (an actual photo composite) and remind yourself that in this very tiny view of space from our little blue rock, each of these is a galaxy with possibly trillions of stars, each of which could have planets each of which could have life and get that all swirling around in your head for a while.

There is beauty all around us, all the time...we just have to remember to look.

A couple of Australian astronomers did some calculations a couple of years ago and came up with a pretty cool conclusion. I'm geeky enough to love this kind of thing, so I wrote a piece based on that for my narration demo.

I'm not on my studio computer, so I had to download it, edit it and then re-encode it, so excuse the dodgy audio quality Smile

Living in Tokyo I get to see too many people whose lives have been sliced, diced and cut into shape under the weight of the corporate culture that pretty much holds this country together. Fathers who never get home before 11:00pm and are out of the house again at 6:00am. Their kids barely know who they are and ultimately end up hating them. And in return, the fathers barely know anything about their kids. The divorce rate for retirees is amazingly high, with the wives dreading the idea of having a husband around the house all day who no longer remembers how to live. I see fathers with their kids on a Sunday still wearing their suit. Their only concession to the weekend being the removal of the tie.
These are the guys who sit at the back of the studio, chain smoking. And yet, for a couple of hours, I'm one of them. We work for the same company, I laugh at their jokes and I too am proud of whatever product I'm 'selling' that day. But when we're done, they head back to the office while I head home to sit on the balcony with my kid and a drink and watch the sun slowly set behind Mt.Fuji. And I wonder when the any of the suits last saw a sunset as beautiful as this.

I don't believe in God, but I'm thankful to the universe for dealing up the life I've found myself with.

Cheers.

Mike.

Interesting topic and addition Mike.

I guess I am on the other end of the spectrum. Seeing such beauty on such a grand scale...knowing I am just a speck.... on a grain of sand whirling around on another speck (earth) in such a large galaxy, which is also a tiny speck in the grand scheme of things of what was created, I feel really, really small and I thank God for creating me and even being remotely concerned about me and my little world of voiceover and production stuff.
