| I'm not sure on the specifics of that Deeb, can he, in Canada, buy a USD money order? Like I said, he has a USD funded Canadian bank...the thing my bank has said is that the routing numbers cannot be of "international origin." Must be like ours...so I suspect that wherever he bought the money order, it would still be drawn off an international account somehow?? I don't know! |

Melissa,
I'd get a new bank on your end. I've had a number of Canadian clients who write me checks in U.S. dollars and my bank doesn't care (BofA). Lots of Canadians buy lots of stuff from U.S. companies and both sides never have problems, so I'm not sure why there's a problem here.
Also, if they use a credit card to pay you through PayPal, your PayPal account automatically requires the money to be paid to you in US dollars, and if they can pay off the card within 25 to 50 days (depending on when in their cycle they charge it) it won't cost them a cent. It shouldn't be hard....ey?

| Well Bruce, call me cheap, but I don't want to pay the fees on a credit card. it's like $60 for a $2000 payment... as for my bank, I asked the other bank i use here also and they also have the wait...so your bank does NOT mail checks back to the country of origin for fund verification?? I guess I need to call all the banks in town to see about that. But 5/3 Bank and Central Bank are like that. |

I've used Pay Pal for over 200 transactions. I recently paid for an item shipping out of Tokyo! Paid for the item via Pay Pal and received it recently. Canada should be no different as the service remains the same.
You WILL be paid in US Dollars.
Regarding fees, I never had to pay above the asking price of the item due to incurred fees. I have sold items that were paid for via Pay Pal and it was then that I saw fees on my end as the seller. And they take their fees before you get yours.
Gotta love it when our Canadian friends do business here in the US. Right before closing the sale with them, they just might ask the familiar: "Great! I'll take it - uhm, is that in Canadian?...." |

If our respective currencies continue on the current trend - you just might want it in Canadian dollars soon.... _________________ Elaine

| On the other hand, if it's a good client and if he's sending you regular work, I'd just wait the 8 weeks. Hell, I've had other clients take a couple of months to pay, but they're good clients, so as long as I know it's coming, I'm okay with it. |

Yeah, Voice in Dallas, it's not the BUYER who pays the fees..it's the SELLER. And in this case, it's the RECEIVER who pays...but my Canadian client's concern is the money he's losing in converting the money from USD to Canadian and back to USD again. He sends out a lot of money this way each month and it adds up and I understand his plight. In the meantime, I have asked at Central Bank again and this time I got a teller who said it's only a 10 day hold. Now I still think she's wrong about her bank's policy but I explained it as clearly as I could and then she said it was somewhat up to teller discretion...so I said, "so I just ask for you then??" Wish me luck this month! |
