Hardly, sir. I think it just proves that you don't belong on Craigslist. _________________ Greg Littlefield

Sorry to hear you heard your phone at that hour.
I'm only 39 but getting very crabby about phones. Cell phones bother me a great deal when they interupt my conversation or dining experience with someone.
Recently I took my precious mother, sister, and brother-in-law to dinner. This was a special moment for me with a 5-star service for Mom and sister. Brother in law is 35 years of age and a business man who lives by his cell phone. I understand his responsibility to others but that phone would not stop!
As you can imagine and experienced, we got sucked into his conversations (cell phone users can be loud) against our will. Wondering what happened to "vibrate" or "off", I jokingly said he's become quite the slave to the device. I told him about an interview with Barbara Walters and the richest man in the world - Khashoggi . She noticed that he didn't have a phone about him but his assistants did. Khashoggi replied "The Khashoggi's will call you when the Khashoggi's are ready". How's that for REAL power. In no certain terms I made it clear to brother in law that I was not impressed as much as dissapointed that the cell phone calls owned him.
Phone rang again. He took the call and spoke even louder as I tried to converse with Mom and Sis.
Conversation over he excused himself to go to the bathroom.
While we continued chatting the phone rang again! I quickly grabbed it and dropped it into his glass of water.
When he returned he saw what I had done and with the coolest demeanor, pulled it from the glass and said "It's waterproof".
No, neither Mom or sis tried to recover the phone.
Some forms of communication can get a bit strange - not to mention the humor. |

Your B-I-L was boorish in the extreme and terribly disrespectful of you, his host, as well as his wife and your mother.
I ask people who need to talk on their phone at dinner to leave the table.

Is anyone else a night person? My preferred hours are 12PM to 2 AM. It was great when I was doing mostly theater. Occasionally when I did film gigs, and had to be there at 6 AM I ended up yawning all day. I somehow managed to control the yawns long enough to say my lines.

I'll bet he didn't talk on a cell phone at the table. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

I am. While I don't take calls that late, I'm often in the studio recording until 2am. _________________ Jeff

I used to be a night owl....too many years of morning drive radio worked it out of me. I use my cell phone for work. It goes off at 6PM. My regular clients know that's Mommy time. _________________ Moe Egan

I don't get home from work till about 20 mins after midnight.
Do people who get home from a "regular day's work" go to bed right when THEY get home? Huh-uh.
I don't either. Lately, it's 2:30-3am before I get to bed.
I keep the cell phone by the bed, but usually on vibrate...which is still obnoxious enough to wake me, but not my wife.

Here's one for ya!
My Family and I went to Disneyland a few weeks ago and while we were having dinner, at one of the nice outside restaurants, a cell phone rang. A gentleman stood up from his table, cell phone in hand, and proceeded to stand next to ours and have his conversation. Luckily it was over quickly. When the phone rang again, not more than two minutes later, he did the same thing. I stopped eating and stood up about two inches from his cell phone and politely said,
"Sir, i think that it is great that you left YOUR table to have a phone conversation, but could you please leave mine as well?"
The great thing is that he apologized and left the area before I could finish my statement.
Common sense anyone??
I agree about the Nextel Chirp!! I am even starting to dislike the commercials. |

If they are really being obnoxious about it, I join in the conversation. More than once they have stopped and told me "Excuse me, this is a private conversation!" I say "No it isn't. I figured you wanted everyone to join in, that's why you have it on speaker, right? If you want it private, go somewhere else!" _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

My friend Amy Alkon (The "Advice Goddess") takes notes and if they shout out their cellphone number for all to hear (people always seem to yell on these things) she publishes their name, cell number and a note urging her readers to do something like:
Call Frieda at 310-555-1212 and congratulate her on her new glasses!
Call 310-888-8888 and tell Joey you think the detailers could have done a better job on his 1965 Mustang!
Blah blah blah.
I wonder about the people wandering thru the supermarket with their sweaty ears glued to the silly thing. Crikey. _________________ DBCooperVO.com
