I suck down caffeinated beverages like crazy and have NO problems getting to sleep at night. I might be beyond where they have any affect on me at all. I've started weening myself off the sodies and such and am starting to feel the difference (and lose a little weight at the same time).

It's the BILLS that wake me up every now and then. Gotta start cutting down on those, too... Embarrassed

Caffeine has a way of lurking after its initial impact is over. Every once in a while, I hit critical mass and have trouble sleeping from coffee or tea OD. It builds up over the course of several time and can take days to flush it out of your system.

What I do during those periods of insomnia is make a deal with myself: I make sure I have some disgusting chore that I've been putting off handy (Taxes, organizing stuff, etc.). The deal I make is that if I'm awake for more than 15 minutes I get up and start to work on the task. Almost always, as soon as I know that I might actually accomplish something during a sleepless night, I snooze through the entire night without problems.

During those few times this doesn't work, I actually end up getting something done.

During more stressful periods in my past I used to suffer terrible insomnia. So usually I'd end up getting out of bed and working for a few hours, or 4, or 6, or all night. I still do that sometimes but it hasn't been a problem since the baby was born. Boy he wears me out.

Caffeine. I started weaning myself a few months ago when I noticed that I was getting headaches if I skipped the morning cups of coffee. I still drink coffee in moderation, or tea or have a coke but I try not to do it all the same day.

You know you're plastered when you try to brush something off your shoulder— and it's the floor.

You know your plastered when you can't figure out why your key won't unlock your front door, and kicking and cursing at its still won't open it. and madly pressing on the bell produces your irrate, sleepy neighbor saying "not you again."

PS It's almost midnight, and I'm listening to BBC radio playing the last five hours of songs from LIVE EARTH, and TEA IN THE PARK concerts.

OK, it's bed time, and I think I have it covered this time. I'll just play a tape of one of my old radio shows.
