Kara,
Thanks! I'd love to get back up there. The beauty of what we do for a living is that it can be done from anywhere. I'd love to meet all of you.
But this thread has been a nice brain tease for me. I am now asking myself that if I were to get a $1000 plus mic, (aside from the RCA 77D) which one would it be?
If any of you cross paths with Jerry Dowd (he was or may still be chief engineer or WBT Radio) please tell him hello for me. |

Bill, the thought of you spending $1000 on a mic makes me smile. You are actually my frugal muse, the person I think about when I need to talk myself out of spending money.
Kara, enjoy the new mic, it sounds great! |

Kara,
Definitely sounds to me like you made a great purchase.
I would love to do some microphone comparisons myself. I've held off on upgrading until I felt I could truely appreciate the improvement. There's nothing better than upgrading your own abilities! When I do make that leap though, I'd like to have some good comparisons under my belt.
Bill,
I'll get with my WBT radio contact today to see if Jerry is still there to pass along the hello. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

mcm, Thanks for making ME smile. I am so cheap it hurts. I'm having to re-think my concept of heaven because someone invented E-Bay. ROTFL It all goes back to my childhood when "funds" were tight. Does anyone here remember "powdered milk?" lol
Bob, thanks for the Jerry checkup. Our (Multimedia, Inc.) FM station in Macon got the calls "WAYS" when the Charlotte station gave them up. Thanks to Cumulus it's now a 1000 watt AM in a closet. <g> But back in the heyday, WAYS-FM pulled a 27 share in an 18 station market. Jerry Dowd is a great and inventive engineer. |

Kara, you have such a unique and wonderful talent and the ability to use it to its full potential, that it seems that nothing could improve it...and yet you have done just that. It sounds great.
I was also wondering if I moved to NC, if some of that talent would rub off on me? Tempting.
Bill, I graduated from Lanier Senior High for Boys in Macon in 1964 and loved the town, but that was before I caught the broadcasting bug. I have many fond memories.
Also I've been remiss in not welcoming Brett to our midst and GW III, what a marvelous voice, you are truly blessed.
I guess I've caught up. I feel better now.

I've earned the label "King of Cheap" from my family, friends, and co-workers.
Put another way, the gf's family had a hard time understand that I don't get anything for myself... ever. If it's not for the studio or career (either VO or the day job), I don't ask for it, I don't spend money on it, and I don't think about it (save of course for the usual bills such as food, gas, utilities, etc.).
and yet somehow I've amassed a slew of gear _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

I don't buy anything for myself outside of professional needs, either.
It is my opinion that my part of the profession requires some really cool stuff. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

agreed
Save for Cel art, I have no other non-essential expenses.
...and since my walls are pretty much filled, I don't grab much cel art anymore unless it's truly rare. Since my budget is set for how much I allot myself for that luxury, I don't get nearly as much any more (because they're so damn expensive... hankens and Miyzaki's aren't cheap).
I think I've matured a bit into the quality vs, quantity phase
Still, I know of at least two vendors at Otakon this year who will be greatly disappointed (apparently I make the bulk of their sales for the con... it's the one time of the year that I go nuts with cels). _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

The MXL sounded edgy and sharp... but the Lawson definitely sounded more polished and refined. The Lawson also seemed more comfortable to isten to. _________________ "Bailey"
