anybody know of a way to batch audio files?
for example, say i have 100 VO segments, all to be mixed with the same music bed - same levels, timing, format, everything.
is there something out there that will allow me to "stack 'em and pack 'em"?
or am i just lazy? _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Todd,
I can't think of a way to automate this, execpt maybe with some third party macro software. And you've probably already thought of this, but, if you set up a project with your music bed on one track and all 100 voiceover takes on the tracks 2 through 101, with tracks 3 through 101 muted. Then, mix. mute and un-mute your way down the list. _________________ Be well,

Todd. I've been playing with a customized batch file in Audition but I just can't seem to get it to work. It doesn't seem to want to memorize which file (music bed) it should mix paste.
I don't think it's possible to automate this in Audition but you could try asking at http://www.audiomastersforum.net/amforum/index.php That's where I've found the guys that really know the ins and outs of Audition when I have a question. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

todd, i did some work for you given your admitted indolence (kidding!).
justin kaiser, a member of this board, may be able to help. somehow, i think he's an AA guru.
his user name is jrkaiser, so you can search for him to PM ... or get him at www.justinkaiser.com. hey! he's in illinois.. maybe he can come over to your house! _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

Send the files to an audio production company in India.

Diane, thanks for the compliment. I don't know if I'm that deserving. I don't know if there is a way to automate this process, but I'll take a look and see what I can find out from some AA contacts... |

update:
thanks to all - particularly brian for the AudioMasters link (reeeeeel smart people over there).
the hang up with doing what i want to do appears to be in adding a 2nd file. you can do all the scripting you want on a single file - but i have not been able to add/paste anything else. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Hope I understand what you are trying to do.
1. I would import your files, as many as you can without locking up your program (Example: ProTools can only have 16 active tracks). Then cut and paste all to one track. Every once in a while deleting the imported tracks to make room for others. You wouldn't need them because you already cut/paste to your main track.
2. Once all is done this way, I would use Compression/Limit to equalize the volume across the track to bring all to the same volume....kinda like Mastering.
I use ProTools, I am sure this will work on AA also. |

I got your PM and understand what you meant.
Well, after playing around with my proggies and even digging thru some text books from some ProTools classes, I came up with jack$#!t. Sorry buddy.
I do swear I have seen it done by another producer by using the regions list. Maybe someone else will come up with something. Would be cool to find out how. |

Well that stinks. I've been following your thread over there Todd. If those guys don't know how to do it in Audition, it most likely cannot be done. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog
