Has anyone run into a problem where AVG anti-virus (free edition) detected that DirectIO.dll is infected? If you 'heal' it, Protools no longer works. Protools needs that file to run. Is this just something that has just happened to me? |

Steve,
I had that exact experience yesterday. Thankfully, I had an alternate anti-virus program available to me through my Road Runner account. As much as I like AVG, something got screwy over the weekend with their virus signatures and I can't have Pro Tools broken. So, I switched to the other anti-virus program and now things are back to normal with Pro Tools. _________________ Be well,

Though the error message suggested reinstalling Protools (requiring one to uninstall first), following Bob's lead, I uninstalled AVG. I did run the Protools 7.3 upgrade in Repair mode after uninstalling AVG. Things fired right up. |

Steve,
I'm very glad to know you're back up and running, too. Pretty scary when you think you've hosed Pro Tools. Great relief when you see it working again. _________________ Be well,

Thanks for the heads-up on that. I've had no problem with PT 7.0 and AVG "playing nice" so far. I'll keep my eyes wide open for that situation from now on. Probably not an issue with the earlier PT version I'm guessing. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

AVG is apparently in a tweaking stage - i don't use PT - but i've noticed some strange / different things happening relating to .dll files too. nothing so serious as hosing an application but odd nonetheless. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Is there a way to communicate with the nice folks at AVG?
I would hope they would be happy for the useful information, as long as it is presented in a somewhat civilized manner.......say, from someone who had a problem YESTERDAY but got over being angry by today. |

My solution for this would be to let them know and then find a different AV provider... |
