Sorry. I'm not buying it. Sometime long after they perfect truly realistic video animation, they might get close with the voice, but there are so many characteristics besides the physical dimensions of the throat that make up an individual's voice, that I don't think we'll see it (hear it) in our lifetimes.

(I pray that's true anyway.)

In the behind the scenes clips of Pixar's production of "Finding Nemo", the whale scene became so realistic that they actually had to back off and make seem less real! If you're basing your view that we're not there yet on what we can do visually to simulate real life, we're in trouble!

I'm wondering what VOs will do in the future if all the producers need is a sampling of, say, Phillip's voice to reproduce all that he does. Instant unemployment! [sorry Philip! the more talented of us are likely to be the first to go because of demand.] Of course, they're be possible legal battles for existing voices, but they could offer the possability of "buying out" someone's voice or using an existing voice as a template, modifying it a bit, and have their own unique voice to just plug whatever script into. hmm... It's a ways off but frightening to consider, in my opinion.
