|

Hi All
I'm hoping someone can help me with setting gain so that I get a nice hot wave form. I am using audition on my dell computer and I have a studio project c-1 mic and a new E-mu preamp. When I record the wav form clips at 6dB. Is there a setting somewhere that is limiting the wav to 6 dB?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Check to see if your Preamp has a limiter button. I know mine does and enabling it gives me the same result as you. _________________ Jeff

Which soundcard are you using?
Several soundcards have limitations on the levels you may have on input - as an example M-audio USB MobilePre limits the level to -6 db. This gives the user a unique quandary - is it the card or is it the DAW software or is it - Memorex?
Also, see above...

Thanks for all the advice.
Jeff, I checked my preamp and it does have a limiter button, but I do not have it selected. Actually I experimented and it makes no difference if I have it lit or not. So it's something else.
Frank, I'm not sure which soundcard I am using. How would I check that?
Also I am using Adobe Audition 2.0, so I'll be looking into that to see if I can track down the problem.
Any other ideas?
Thanks again!

What comes after the preamp? (Hint it is what probably is in the computer)
In AA, while in Edit mode, check under Edit> Audio hardware Setup> Edit View> Look at the Audio Driver and Edit View Ports...
This will tell you which audio device you are using, there might be more than one device/soundcard available to you.

Frank
My current setting is ASIO E-MU 0400-USB (which is my new pre-amp).
Other options are Audition Windows Sound and M-Audio USB ASIO and M-Audio USB ASIO interface (My old pre amp was an M-Audio pre usb)
In the edit view port, my current setting is Input [01S] Analog IN A
and the output is [01S] Analog OUT.
Other options in the edit port are Input [02S] SPDIF IN L and Output [02S]SPDIF OUT.
Hope you know what this means. I sure don't.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Just for the record--I want to send out a big thank you to everyone--especially to Frank who went above and beyond to email and call me with his advice.
You are all the best!
