Be interested to know what the techies think. A friend of mine needs a quality portable digi recorder for location interviews so I've just bought her this as a prezzie. Before I send it to her I'll have a play first.

Watch for plosives!

I've been dealing with some frightening audio (for a website) from an H2.
I'll bet it has a great deal with the attitude of the recoder relative to the speaker, and the fellow collecting the audio knows nothing about collecting audio.

I wonder if you use your own mic with it would you have the same problem with plosivations.

I hope to use one for recording bird song but birds don't seem to have as much trouble with p's and b's as we are prone to have.

PB,

Here's a link to a podcast review of the H4. They too had some plosive issues. The included pop filter seemed to work well, but I believe they had trouble keeping it from falling off.

The sound is amazing.

DB, the only criticism I've heard about the H2 is a problem with syncing to video and problems being able to see the small display.

I'm still considering both of these little machines, but I'd like to hear more first.

I think blaming the device for plosives is a bit like blaming bad copy on the noise reduction. I'll have a play when it arrives and post some audio in due course.

I listened to the Podcast. The quality of the H4 is great, the Podcast was truly awful. Mindless wittering from two equally ill prepared presenters. A listener tunes in to hear the H4 and after nearly 8 mins not a sound from the device. You have a ready market for quality Podcasts ...go git 'em.
