Bottom line, if you have a legal disclaimer, you're fine.

The bottomer- line:

I'm not willing to take that chance and have to pay lawyers to defend me, even if I ultimately would win.

Perhaps a little off the subject - but, let's see if anyone else has ever done this one...

Back in the mid 80's I recieved a check from a client and stuck it in my shirt pocket, you know, thinking I would go to the bank and all that stuff.

Hmmm....forgot about check. Put shirt in laundry. Check turned into lint.

Hey, that's no word!

On another note, the better Business Bureau is always a great resource. I reported my vocal booth manufacturer for kindly accepting $475 for upgrade parts and never shipping ... until the BBB threat.

This is just my own opinion so take it for what it's worth. I know I don't walk the same road as many of you and I respect where you are too!

Personally, I would never post a name of any person, client or company that didn't pay on a web site such as this or on my own site. I think it makes me look bad more than it would shame someone who isn't going to pay anyway. If privately asked, I would give my opinion but it would stop there. Right now I can think of a couple of folks that owe me money for delivered work after over a year or more. Since I'm into relationships with my "people" I don't know if they've been under hardships of some sort or family problem they haven't discussed. If they won't return my e-mail then they are probably embarased at their situation if it's taken a bad turn. I just consider it a gift and move on. Given the fact that 98% of my business is outside of my home state, that's remarkable.

Most of my clients are great, responsive and trustworthy people. They are hard working folks and are fun to work with and would never think of not paying what they owe. That makes this business a real pleasure for me. In the end, I have to do what keeps me thinking ahead and moving forward.

Thanks for reading and sorry if I offend.

Nope. You're right on the money, as it were.

When theft of service occurs, anyone is understandably outraged. But, as Bill said, we can't know all the circumstances.

All in all, we can help each other by sharing business experiences privately, entre nous, and make this board an expression of civility and camaraderie-- an indication of the excellent craftsmen and women we are.

fixed a farking misspelling

Because I'm yakking about everything on this board,..why stop now.

I dunno. Depending on the amount, I tend to chalk it up as lesson learned. I've been burned a few times over 20 years, and really, screw them. Just carry on. I believe in Karma. The times you get burned v/s the times it works is actually very small. I've found the most common problem is that the 'client' is ignorant of the 'skill' of professional voiceover, which is why I insist on getting the "FINISHED EXPECTATION" and "BUDGET PAID" out of the way before going into a session.

How many times does the client say "It should only take you 15 minutes"? Well, I SHALL decide how long it will take , and I'm not going to base my price on what YOU think it will take, before I quote / record - otherwise, tell me your budget, let's agree and carry on.
