Although....

I have an in-law, a big time accountant here in the city, and at the time we had him and his wife over for dinner he was the president of his city's Jewish Community Center. Since it was mid-summer we decided to prepare a big salad as the main course. Thinking ahead, instead of tossing it we put out all the toppings in separate bowls especially the crispy chunks of smoked bacon. Sure enough, he and his wife piled it on going "mmmmmmm, bacon!!".

But yes, Chanukah Cham is a bit of an oxymoron, emphasis on the moron part.

reminds me of this joke, and no offense to my locals, who've heard it:

why do you always take two mormon buddies fishing?

cuz if you take just one, he'll drink all your beer.

that was a little threadjackey. having read bruce's post, i was swept up!

ha, believe me, the "passover bread" (matzoh) doesn't wash ANYTHING down.

Reminds me of a former boss who we invited out to dinner at our place. We were serving pizza, and I asked him (since I knew he and his wife are Jewish) if they wanted some other kind of meat on the pizza instead of pepperoni. He looked at me with a little twinkle in his eye and said, "Pepperoni doesn't have any pork in it, does it?"

Turns out they weren't THAT observant... but he did appreciate my asking.

actually ANY meat on the pizza would be unkosher since you aren't supposed to mix any meat with cheese.

Yeah, I wondered about that, too. But, he assured me that we were fine...

It was the first time we'd ever had him over, and I didn't want to make a misstep. They were cool about it.

aahh - but that's because matzoh can't possibly be eaten with Channukah Ham - the only true accompaniment would be leavened Passover bread

The story's hit the big time.

Balducci's Chanukah Cham is all over the local NYC newscasts today.
