Hello all,

Enclosed is a link to my website where you'll find my demo with two tracks: commercial and animation

I would sincerely appreciate it if you would have a listen and advise me on how to fix my problem areas.

I have to warn you, much of what you'll hear is redundant (as I've been told by many, many people and my ears are picking it up now). Unfortunately I was suckered early on in my training to make a demo and have since been trying to get experience and knowledge before I pay more sums of money to have the demo redone.

Thank you all for your time!

Hey Mary,

I've only been doing VO for a very little bit so I'm not the one to give any Critique, but I did have a listen!

Overall your voice sounds pretty good! But I really think you need to drop this line at the end... "Of all the ocean's mysteries my favorite is the haunting mating call of the hump back whale"

Just wondering... Was that from a spot or something?

On the other hand, I won't forget your reel!

Again, like your voice a lot!

Wow Mary. You're good. I liked a whole lot of what I heard on your commercial demo and everything on your animation demo.

Thoughts on the commercial demo: You have one basic voice style (cute, young, and sweet come to mind) and everything on your demo is done in slightly different shades of that style only. While there's nothing wrong with going with your strong suit, you might open up more opportunities for work if you can do other styles well. Explore and find out. Now, staying within your vocal style, you sound really appropriate for products that teens and young adults might use and on reads where age wouldn't matter, but I wouldn't do reads that a young voice would never be used for and the Olive Garden clip comes to mind. I'd clip the last line on the 7th cut about fads or drop it altogether, and I agree the humpback clip is a little odd. You have some outstanding stuff on your animation demo. Maybe you can take a couple of clips from that to spice up your commercial demo. It'll show some range.

Thoughts on your animation demo: It's really good and the fully produced material that was clearly lifted from real projects sounds the best. Your best clips seemed to be mostly in the last half of the demo. Next time you edit I'd consider a little rearranging of the clips to feature the most interesting material at the beginning.

You're very good in your niche of young woman/teen. It's a nice niche, and there's work to be had. The trick now is finding people who need your niche.

The best of luck to you!

Bruce
